Product Description

YOU MUST PROVIDE A PHONE NUMBER IN ORDER TO GET YOUR WORMS SHIPPED!! Red Wigglers are tough and hardy. Adaptable to many environments, Redworms have been breaking down organic waste to make natural fertilizer for millions of years. They also aid in the breaking down of pathogens. These worms are prolific breeders, laying one egg capsule as often as every seven days. Each worm capsule will hatch an average of 3 to 4 earthworms. The hatched earthworms will grow into breeders in about three months. They are very popular live bait for fish that prefer small baits, such as trout, bluegill, perch or crappie. Red Wigglers are easy to use as bait, easily surviving in temperatures between 38 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit.

I was planning on taking pictures of these worms when they got here but I was in a rush to get them into the bin immediately and then there was not much to look at. The tracking information stated that the seller shipped them on Sunday (I intentionally ordered on Saturday night to prevent a weekend delay in transit). As one should expect, the courier did not receive them until Monday afternoon and they spent 3 days in a box without leaving the sellers state. The sellers website says they should be OK for up to 5 days in shipping and it took 5 days to get here, so I was in a big hurry to get them into the bin with moisture and food. This is what I consider a chain of events caused by an unprofessional seller.

When I actually got the package, I was in a hurry to get them in the bin and hydrated immediately. They did not look ill at all but the package, box, bedding and all, weighed no more than 1/2lb. Most of the volume, and at least 1/3 of the weight that was in the mass of worms was actually bedding. Now, I've read a bit about worms and I know that you can have 1/2lb of worms that number in the thousands even if they are mature and will rapidly put on weight when given space and food, but this was not the case. Relatively few of them had the band on them that indicates that they are mature. This negates the effect of a small but mature Eisenia Fotida reaching full adult size shortly after being added to a large bin with plenty of food.

This product description claims both that "Red Wiggler, Eisenia Fotida, worms are approximately 900-1000 to the pound." and also "This is a pack with Two (2) pounds of worms."

The included paper made the claim that "The worms can lose up to 70% of their body mass and weight during a 3-5 day trip through the mail.

I ordered 2000 worms from this company. The transaction was very smooth, and it only took around four days to get the order. I happen to live only a couple hours away. Why I am posting a negative review is because i did not get 2000 worms. We painstakingly counted these worms and received less than 600. Customer service is non-existent and email attempts have been ignored. If you order from this company, be sure to count the worms you get to make sure you are not being cheated.

I am an Amazon Prime member and ordered these with free 2 day shipping. Uncle Jim's didn't get them out on time so it took 3 days- that's why the 4 stars. Other than that, the worms were plentiful, a big wad of adults and tons of babies hatching. Kind of skinny and dehydrated, but they all seem to be doing well in my Worm Inn. Disappeared into the bedding and headed straight for the food I had waiting in there. I think that the problem with Uncle Jim's is that they don't have reliable workers who care about the company reputation. Sometimes you get a good 'packer' and they get it right, or you get a sloppy packer and the worms are dead or whatever. Uncle Jim's Management needs to raise the bar on their order processing and get a better handle on how their employees are taking care of customers. Amazon needs to make sure that two day orders go out in a timely fashion, too.

Do not get the worms shipped from uncle jims worm farm. he is a liar and a thief. He sends you live worms ok, but they are always mixed breeds. The mixed breeds are redworms with perionyx excavatus. These 2 are similar, but the difference is that redworms are slower and the perionyx excavatus is faster as well as thinner. The perionyx excavatus is more prolfic and picky about its food choices. This breed is known to overtake your bins an can die at temps as low as 45 degrees farenheight where red worms will not. Uncle jims worms can have 25% or more of the perionyx excavatus mixed in the orders. So not only do you get less than ordered, but you get a mixed breed that can overtake and kill your population possibly.
He claims to send you 2 pounds of worms and when you get them they are dehydrated by as much as 50% as he puts it. you need a couple of weeks for the worms to perk up and then they would weigh the same as they did when he shipped them out. The weight of the worms is 1 pound with packing material so I say mr Jim is full of bs. There are up to a 1000 redworms per pound and Uncle jim swears that he has sent 2 pounds. On multiple occasions I would count the so called 2 pound order and come up with 900 to 1000 which is the equivalent of a pound and they are mixed. Also if UNcle jim was truthful then 2 pounds of worms shrinking in weight to 50% would all be dead after shipment because the worms cannot withstand that much moisture loss which in this case would be more than 50%. Uncle Jim is deceitful and lies in hopes that you the customers are ignorant. MR Jim is in it for the money and not for you. Uncle jims worm farm has reviews far worse all over the internet. He fails most of the time to respond to you..

When I read the reviews and especially the negative feedback, I was a little unsure about ordering at this place. The price was great and it had more positive reviews than negative so I took the chance. I ordered two 2lb red wiggler composting worms. They shipped quickly. My students counted out the worms (about 1000+ per class). They had a wonderful experience handling the worms and getting the bedding ready for them. They only ship on Monday so the worms get to you alive.
