Well, it's about time! As much as I enjoyed the previous UNCLE JOHN PLUNGES INTO... books, I was always hoping the next one would be on Television, that entertaining/appalling/informative 800-lb. gorilla that's been such a part of American culture for 50-odd years. Now we have UNCLE JOHN BATHROOM READER TUNES INTO TV, which serves up 500 pages of facts and trivia about the networks, shows, actors/actresses/producers/directors, controversies, technology, etc. on the orthicon tube. It was worth the wait!

Like other BR books, the information presented in this 2011 release falls into four categories: SHORT "quick reads," 2-3 page MEDIUM reads, LONG(er) articles and butt-busting EXTENDED reads.

First off, is all the material in TUNES INTO TV new? Nope! If you're a dedicated TV buff, some items will ring a bell. However, there is much here that is new or interestingly rearranged.

The material is divided into broad categories: Groundbreakers, Controversy, Kid TV, Science of TV, Actor's Life, Late Night With Uncle John, Game Shows, Networks, It's a Blunderful Life, Shows on Shows, Wild and Wacky, etc. Each chapter is then broken down into the aforementioned Short, Medium, Long and Extended sections. The Groundbreakers chapter, for example, features Short articles on "Saturday Night Live" Trivia, MTV Trivia and "Oprah" Facts; a two-parter on "The Monkees" along with Long articles on the "COPS" Story, TV Miniseries and Movie of the Week.

As with all Bathroom Reader volumes, you can start from page 1 and bash through or, as I prefer, just open the book and jump in.

Get the next best thing! I thought this book was filled with tons of useful information, from the history of television to little trivia tidbits. I'm the kind of guy that loves to go to the trivia section of a movie on IMDB and learn all the fun stuff I can, so this book delivers in spades. I highly recommend it and if you haven't read any of the Bathroom Readers in the past, this is a great place to start.

I've collected every Bathroom Reader written and they are all fine, worthwhile bathroom reading. Short and informative, you can leave off whenever you want and pick right back up where you left off with no problem. The information I've learned over the years has amazed friends, family and co-workers. Just as I finish one, the next issue is coming out...so I'm never without a fast read.

I have almost 40 of Uncle John's bathroom readers (that's how much I love them) I think this one is my favorite. Growing up watching a lot of TV I figured there wouldn't be a lot of stuff in this book I hadn't already read somewhere else - I was wrong. Very interesting articles in this edition!!

Uncle John's Bathroom Readers are always fun to read and this one is no exception. It is loaded with information about your favorite (and not so favorite) shows, spin-offs that made it and those that didn't, anecdotes about the stars, failed pilots and much much more. I was amazed to find that the role of Matt Dillon on "Gunsmoke" (made famous by James Arness) was frst offered to John Wayne. If you like trivia about TV then this is the book for you.

Being a fan of the books, and interested in TV trivia, I purchased this a while back and I certainly wasn't disappointed!

The book features information on all different aspects of television. Origins of networks, actors and actresses, dramas, children's shows, technical information, and more! Small bits of trivia are feature on almost every page and there is really something for everyone. Of course it's the more popular shows that get the most talk, but there is a good variety. And its this trivia (the shows) that I enjoyed most. Learning how shows like Law & Order came to be, and how the Giligan's Island theme song was changed.

I'd highly recommend this to anyone fond of television (as most would) but I'd also recommend it to people with an interest in America's history and culture.

As a couch potato, this book was a fantastic read. Tons of background information on many TV shows and some history of television as well. The triva questions were sprinkled throughout the book and were fun to do. This book is great for anyone who watches TV.
