I like almost all of the Uncle John's Bathroom Reader books and this one is no exception. Packed from cover to cover with bite-sized tidbits of information this is one of those books that you can pick up and spend one or two minutes or a couple of hours enjoying, then lay it down for awhile without losing the story. If you read the Uncle John's books then you are familiar with the "footers" on each page. This book is a collection of this kind of information and may, in fact, be a compilation. It is a fun read.

One of the regular features of the UNCLE JOHN'S BATHROOM READERS series is the "running feet" facts that are included at the bottom of the page. WISE UP is a collection of all those facts culled from previous BATHROOM READERS and subject volumes such as GOLDEN PLUNGER, HISTORY, etc. Loosely arranged under broad categories, this recycled material has been supplemented with a limited amount of new facts to produce WISE UP.

This is the 2nd edition of WISE UP published. It tops off at 402 pages. Of that total, 352 pages consist of recycled material. The facts are organized under headings like American Heritage, Grub & Grog, Battle Stations, Hooray for Canada, On the Move, Rich & Famous, Global News, Entertainment, Family Ties, American History, Holiday Cheer, Oddballs, The Seasons, Notable Numbers, Geek Speak and so on. Each category is further divided into sub-sections. The Science & Weather section, for example, is divided into Science, Scientific Numbers, Scientific Streets, For What Ails You, It's Elemental, Under the Weather, X-treme Weather, Doctor! Doctor!, Twister! and Natural Disasters.

Depending how devoted a reader of BATHROOM READERS you are, you may find WISE UP a great treat or a bit of a rip-off. I enjoyed it but $17.95 seems a bit much for mostly repackaged material. Your call, folks!

I love trivia and those little bits of information that seem to pop into your brain at random times to make a dinner party more interesting! As such, I was hoping more more of the same when I purchased my unknownth book from Uncle John's Bathroom Reader.

The stories are shorter in this one, and there are more that require you to turn to four or five sections down farther in the pages to reach the eventual conclusion of the story. I, for one, am not a big fan of that. There was a bit of recycling from other prior Uncle John's Readers in the book, which for me made it harder to stay focused and keep reading well into the wee hours of the night. It may possibly be just me, but I felt this book was a bit of a throw away. Many of the stories/legends/trivia bits didn't have the same flourish to them. Often they were dry and poorly worded whereas they should have been at least snicker worthy. In the past while I would read these books I often shared parts with my husband, knowing he would find them as interesting or amusing I as had. There were very, very few opportunities within this book.

Go ahead and borrow this one from a friend or a local library. While it does have a couple of bright spots, there aren't enough to allow this book to take of valuable real estate on your book shelf.

This book is full of fun and interesting facts about everything from the super serious to the wholly hilarious. Fair warning, though! Not all of the tidbits are 100% true: I've spotted urban legends, outdated data, and outright errors. Still worth the read, though!

This is the Second Edition of Extraordinary Book of Facts. I recommend ordering the first one(Extraordinary Book of Facts: and Bizarre Information) before ordering this one(Wise Up!: Amazing Facts and Incredible Information)... Always a great read either on the John or NOT!

A warning should be issued with all Uncle John's Bathroom Readers....something like this, "Do not open these pages unless you're prepared to become adicted!!" I have many editions, love them all and pass them to friends who are also now adicted. They're GREAT!! Uncle John's will definatly improve your knowledge of a vast number of subjects. Also makes a geat gift!

Bought this for my adult children...They LOVE the Uncle John Bathroom Reader Series....It's not just for bathroom reading! These books are filled with funny, interesting, wonderful, mysterious and facinating tidbits of information. Excellent choice for all ages!

I love these books. I bought this one for my daughter and she had her nose stuck in it for long periods of time. She would pop her head up to read us some 'truly amazing' facts. I highly recommend it.

My daughter enjoyed ours so much when visiting at Thanksgiving that we had to get her one for Christmas. Our bathrooms are never with out one.
