This tea is basically a great tasting tea with alot of health benefits. For organic tea, the price was just right too! The packaging is nothing fancy, so if you are into that, its not the right kind for you. Value and good taste is what I get out of this tea.

Medium "so so" grade white tea - good for iced tea preparation,

I bought this tea because I love white tea. Normally I buy loose tea, and of the highest grade.
I knew this tea would likely lose some character if it was sold in tea bags. Also, the tea contained in these bags is not the highest grade, but of the second grade. This is NOT a knock against the tea as clearly indicates the tea is Bai Mu Dan or Pai Mu Dan which is one level below Silver Needle. I noticed this tea is quite a bit below the grade of Silver Needle. No taste of freshly mown hay here. However, the tea does smell a little smoky (probably cured over a wood fire). The taste is slightly woody or darker, but somewhat undefined. This tea is okay though, better than some cheaper green teas I've gotten from discount stores. I think the best purpose for this tea is iced tea. Fill a small jug full of water, hang a few bags of white tea in it, then put it in the fridge. After a few hours you can take out the bags and you'll have a nice base of white iced tea. Then just add a few cubes, or any other flavouring, and you've got a nice white iced tea that is better than the stuff you can buy already made up in the bottle. For the price, however, it's a lot of medium "so so" grade white tea conveniently put into bags which you can drink at work or in the morning. However, as I have previously said, I think this tea is destined towards ice tea preparation. If you want a really good cup of white tea, your probably going to have to buy loose tea and pay a lot more $$$'s. So I gave this tea four stars.

I just reordered this item from Amazon, as my wife and I both like it. We have been unhappy with the quality of most common teas sold in grocery chains, so we tried this. We are normally black tea drinkers. The taste is very mild, and is the first tea I've been able to drink without adding sugar. It may be too mild for those like a good strong cup of black tea. I gave it 4 stars, because although we like it, it's not spectacular by any means.

Great Tea,
By Diane (Milwaukee, Wi. USA) - See all my reviews Uncle Lee's Organic White tea is the next picking after the silver needle tea. Silver Needle may be the best of the best, but it's also very expensive. Black and green tea can have a bite to it, White tea is smooth and, from what I read, VERY high in antioxidants and low in caffine. It's good both hot and iced.

The Amazon description, saying this is Bai Mu Dan, is incorrect. It is actually fannings. Fannings is the second to the smallest leaf size. Fannings are used in tea bags because of their small size and economic price. On the Uncle Lee's tea website, this tea is shown just as white camellia sinensis. The Uncle Lee's Organic White tea that is described as Bai Mu Dan on the Uncle Lee website is $5 for 18 bags.
The only other pure white tea I've had is Republic of Tea's Emperor's white tea, which I find superior to this tea, having a milder and sweeter flavor that is even more pleasant to drink without sweetener than this one. The Uncle Lee's white tea is closer to an oolong in both color and flavor than the Emperor's, with just a hint of bitterness and none of the herbal tones of a green tea. That said, the RoT Emperor's White is almost 6 times more expensive than this tea, and Uncle Lee's is still easy to drink without sweetener, so I'll save the Emperor's for special moments and use the Uncle Lee's as my "daily drinker." Having more flavor, I find that this makes an excellent iced tea.

The organic label and price make this tea appealing. White tea became a good compromise because black and green teas were unpredictable and too strong in flavor and tannins. Some green teas were too smoky, and some black teas tasted like tar. Other black and green teas tasted like wood chips. White tea is smooth and mellow, so there are less chances of things going wrong with white tea. We tried different organic and non-organic brands of green tea, and they were expensive and sometimes unpalatable. You could get a headache from trying to sort through the myriad of tea choices. If you don't like strong tea, and you don't want to gamble with different brands; then you should try the organic white tea.

The tea was not bitter and tasted fine. The price is great ($.05/bag). I like drinking it for the nutritional value. It is made from products in China (which worries me a little). I hope it is made with integrity and safety in mind.

The good news is this tea tastes Great. There is no overpowering bleach taste like a Lipton box I just bought.
The only bag thing is the box I got wasn't the the exact one in the picture. It is less colorful ... but that doesn't really matter.. but also provides 0.71 ounces less of tea for a total of 2.84 less ounces. The boxes include 5.29 ounces of tea each instead of the 6 ounces in the box pictured. I just usually expect to get the same exact item as the one pictured and give it 3 stars for this reason, but otherwise a great tea.

I like a mild-flavored tea, so this suits me. I also re-use the bag at least once, and I am happy with the flavor. Definitely a good deal.

This tea is very mild and really does taste great and I could definitely see myself drinking this everyday. I mainly use loose leaf teas, but find tea bags useful for the office or if I'm in need of a quick fix. This tea is a great value, the bags are individually wrapped, they smell great and I've tried two and three steeping with one bag and while you loose the caffeine after the first steep, the taste was really good.
Just a quick note, do not add boiling water to this tea, the water should be under 200 degrees (not sure on the exact temps). What I do is get the water just to boil, let the water sit 3 minutes and then pour. I will steep the tea for about two to three minutes. For a second infusion I only let the water sit for about 30 seconds to a minute. Works for me. I can recommend this tea highly, I think you will like it. |
