So, I've been looking for a hammer extension. When I saw Mike's Hammer Extension here at Amazon for the Blackhawk, I was elated. However, after placing my order, I read further to understand that the hammer extension is for the Blackhawk RIFLE. I just received the hammer extension in the mail just minutes ago, and guess what? It perfectly fits the Blackhawk REVOLVER also!
This hammer extension is designed for guns mounted with a scope, where the back of the scope covers the hammer. I'm using it for a slightly different purpose, since my revolver doesn't have a scope. Instead, I'll be mounting a reflex sight on a top rail that won't impede access to the hammer. My application simply makes cocking the gun much easier. The hammer extension definitely does the trick.
Will this extension fit all revolver hammers? I simply don't know, but IT DOES work on the Ruger Blackhawk revolver.
Tip: Before putting this on your gun's hammer, tilt the hammer extension with the large opening towards the floor or table top. Then insert the teenie weenie set screw (you get two in case you lose one in the carpet threads) and tighten it with the supplied Allen wrench until the head of the set screw just pokes through the thread opening on the other side where it will rest against the hammer.Read more ›
Makes it very easy to cock any gun.
Also, it's made of aluminum which was a poor choice of materials. If you really tighten down the set screw, it actually causes the whole thing to bend. And if you don't crank down the set screw, it comes loose when firing. To fix this, I'm going to drill a notch in the hammer for the set screw to engage with, and I'm going to add a second set screw on the opposite side. I'm sure that will fix the problem, but I think a better designed hammer extension would have avoided these issues.

Fits perfectly on NEF 45-70 Handi Rifle. Only minimal effort/work was done in filing a small groove into hammer to give a more secure hold for the extender.Published 26 days ago by Tex5646
