I was sorta hoping this was going to look cooler than it actually does.
As far as sound reactivity, the audio really drives the visuals well... The visuals are a little too strobey/flashy...we had it on @ a party and decided it was just too annoying. :(

This toy is fine for kids, but not good for a serious party. If you have other effects in your 'show', the unit will seem very weak and light in comparison. It syncs well with the music though. The main unit has a power cord and the remote has 3 aaa batteries. I bought it to add to the lights I already had for a party. I had it on during the party, but it was upstage by the other units I had on.

Surprisingly entertaining!,
I used caution in buying this little device because these kinds of small scale light-shows have a tendency of being pretty LAME. HOWEVER, this product is definitely an exception. It detects the beats of of the music precisely and accurately. The light shows are usually all unique depending upon the beat of the song and the multiple modes, provided by the remote, liven up the experience because you can interact with the music by changing the mode progressively through each song. It's great for small scale parties and displays a nice big, clear, light show from floor to ceiling (8-10ft) flawlessly. The remote is very responsive as well, working 20+ feet away. The unit comes with an interchangeable lens and mirror for different effects. I personally do not like the effect provided by the mirror, but the lens is awesome.

Yeah, this product looks awesome on the outside. Just too bad it isn't as cool as the box and advertisements show. The light show just isn't quite as smooth as it's website shows. You have to set the sensitivity just right or it is way too annoying for a small party. It would work for a wilder pary. Oh well. I still give it several stars because it really is a cool toy. I enjoyed it.

It's true the effect is not bright enough in party/dance situations. In darker more intimate situations as mood or effect lighting, the light seems to dance and pulse and take on a life of its own. Mesmerizing and totally effective. We love it.

Not what I expected,

I read the reviews on this before purchasing it and it still was not what I expected. It appears to be similar to a laser light show when it is actually more of a colored strobe light. The lights flash to the beat of the music. It was very easy to hook up and can be used with pretty much any audio device. The lights are not very bright & look best when it is close to a wall or ceiling. I purchased this as a gift for someone who is mentally handicapped. I am now returning it, because I don't feel it is a suitable gift for someone who is prone to seizures.

If it was a bit brighter it would have been cool but it doesn't really light up the room like I thought it would. Overall it's alright something to watch but I never would bring it to a party. Look at "the laser star machine" if you want something amazing.

Once I was able to fixate the lens on the bowl, this guy become a lot of fun. I've used it at several parties and it's mainly great for the room especially when u get it hooked up to your laptop. For the price it's listed at it's hard to disagree that this device isn't more amusing for adults than kids. Buying 2 or 3 of these would be the best option if you considered throwing a serious party.

I got this a few years ago during a store clearance sale. I thought the light would be really cool, but it's disappointed me numerous times when I've uncovered it.
First of all, let me stress the importance at keeping track of all the included accessories. The remote is a nice touch, but without it the unit will not power on. The lenses are necessary for providing a slightly wider angle of light coverage, but if you lose it by accident, you're out of luck unless you can procure your own replacement. The speaker wires are slightly unusual, and can be picked up from say, your local radioshack, but if you lose them it's still a pain to go retrieve them. My main complaints are both in the design and the effects. Regarding the design, what's up with the remote for ease of use, but then making controls on the unit mandatory? The little clear knob selects the sensitivity- why not add this to the remote? I'm unable to hide this away as I have to tune it up or down repeatedly during use. The effects seem to be a random strobing effect going through no particular pattern to match the music or beat. It just switches to the next programmed set of lights according to the music spike in volume. If the music is too quiet, it just goes out. I thought this would be more of a transitional light strobing effect that acted as a music equalizer. I was wrong. However, despite these two problems, I can't justify throwing out or giving away the unit to other people. I'm still looking for fun ways to mod this (switching out the LED's, harvesting it for a flashlight, etc) as it has great potential for that. But if you have doubts about this unit fulfilling your needs, I'd stay clear. |
