My 7-year-old is a star wars nut and received this light as a birthday gift. He was disappointed with it's size - note the product spec says 27" long and the lit end is about 20" - but loves it anyway. It's a little bright for a nightlight, but not bright enough to be a room light. It does turn itself off after 15 minutes, and you can turn it both on and off with the remote. The "educational" value is almost nil. The instructions include a couple paragraphs about what LEDs are and what gives them different colors. The product description about "construct a light saber" is crap. You snap in an electronics assembly, install batteries, and snap together a 2-piece shell.

In some of the other reviews (for the other colors) there are gripes about the fact this is battery powered. It is a bit annoying, but it is an LED that only runs 15 minutes at a time. A set of 3 AAA batteries should last a couple months being run every day under those conditions. The fact that it's battery powered also lets you mount it anywhere you want, and you don't have a wire dangling from it. Even so, rather than bother with batteries, I rooted through a box of old electronics in the garage and found a 4.5V AC adapter like this one 4.5 VDC 500mA AC Adapter. I chopped the plug off the end of the adapter, ran the wires through the hole in the bottom of the saber intended for securing the battery pack with a screw, and soldered the wires to the springs in the saber handle that are intended to contact the battery pack. If you do this pay close attention to the positive and negative connections. You can deduce which spring is poitive and which is negative by looking at how the battery pack would contact the springs. You don't want to hook up the power wires backwards.

The product description is incorrect. The description claims you can "Choose from 8 color effects". You cannot choose any color effects. It is only green. I would not have purchased this had I known it was only green.

We tried 2 different Luke Lightsabers. There seems to be an issue with a circuit or something.
Never worked or went on like the Obi-Wan blue one we have. Doesn't stay on or work with the remote either.
Frustrating!

We use these on a regular basis - got both this one and the Luke Skywalker one. Daddy installed it around our room, and with some adhesive Velcro strips, we put the remote controls by the headboard of our son's bed for ease of use in the middle of the night. Highly recommended.

First one wouldn't work at all, second one would come on but not stay on. Seems like a great item, but turns out not to be. Sad

It worked fine. I really just wish it changed colors. It would have been more fun for the purpose I was using it for!

It is not high quality, seems very cheaply made. My son loves it and it does look good when it's lit up. If you were going to put it on the wall and leave it there it's fine.

Lights up the room very well. DO NOT like that it requires batteries as they start costing you money down the road. They are very simple to assemble and my son was absolutely thrilled to have them. I purchased 2 so I could make a 'statement' in his room about the power of them & used 2 different colored Lightsabers which is cool -- but make sure you read closely to get the colors you want and the effects you want them to do. The controlers are a wonderful touch. Sadly they do not 'work' as 1 when you have more than 1 so you have to keep track of them. IF you have a desire to play with them .. I will warn you not to. They are a bit on the flimsy side and they "seem" and I use that word "seem" that they would break easily. They do slide off & on easily from the bracket on the wall. I like the sound. Could be a bit more dramatic .. but it works for a child. FYI -- they do go off after a certain amount of minutes so the batteries are not depleted so quickly which is a wonderful touch. AND of what I could tell from the 2 different ones I purchased ..the touch buttons / handles are designed differently so you can collect ALL of them per that character in the movie.
