Star Theater Pro

Star Theater Pro allows you to relax under the starry night sky in the comfort of your own home.

Projector Turns Your Home into a Planetarium

The Star Theater Pro optical star projection system is a sleek, spherical projector that transforms any wall or ceiling into a starry night sky. The main projection unit is a modern-looking, plastic sphere that sits on a simple base, which swivels the projector easily and securely into any position. Once the projector is in position, the projection can be viewed as a still image or as a slowly rotating view of the night sky by selecting the rotate option on the main control panel. Other features include a timed shut-off option, a focus dial, an optical-quality lens, and the option to power the unit by AA batteries (not included) or AC adaptor (included.) The included planetarium soundtrack can be played on any CD player while using the Star Theater Pro to enhance the overall planetarium experience.

Versatile Projector Works Almost Anywhere

The Star Theater Pro is easy to set up and comes with two image discs, a Starfield disc and an Earth/Moon/Sun disc. These discs fit into the disc tray located on the front of the projector. Once inserted, the spherical projector can be turned to face any flat wall or ceiling surface. The focus dial located on the top of the projector around the optical lens can then be used to make sure the galactic image is sharp and crystal clear.

The small size and sleek shape of the projector make it easy to place in a bedroom or living room unobtrusively, and the option to power the projector by battery makes it possible to place it in almost any room in your home. Set up the projector in your living room as an entertaining way to learn about the solar system and distant galaxies, or use it to drift off to sleep in your bedroom by setting the shut-off timer and playing the planetarium background soundtrack.

Customer Reviews

If you don't care if it rotates, there are much cheaper alternatives so don't waste your money.

I love the way it lights up our room at night, just like sleeping out under the milkyway way out in the middle of no where.
Sherri L. Ward
It's not educational...the only thing you see are random stars on one disc, and the sun, moon, and earth on the other.

Having done much research about which was the best "home planetarium" around I fell upon a website from a small company in America called Miller Engineering - they make high quality lithographs and various other lighting products...

long story short they have manufactured a star slide with 1.2 million stars [...] - way more than the standard number on all of the home projector planetaria(sic)...they also gave some recommendations of which one to buy - so I went with what they said!

The Uncle milton arrived first and was a delight - easy to set up (although no option for a European plug...so I'll have to get the screwdriver out)and great fun...however, out of the box it really was a toy and no more.

Next to arrive was the new star disc - $50 dollars direct from Miller engineering and the "toy" is transformed - a fantastic view of the Northern hemisphere star field, with recognisable constellations - it is apparently a highly accurate reproduction of the night sky - I can well believe it.

I bought this as an interesting addition to the bedroom of my new born son - as a physics teacher I hope he will appreciate the wonder of the galaxy beyond, when the lights are out in the room it produces a really magical show on the ceiling...

I would recommend the unit but only if you buy the additional high-detail disc.

The Promise:

We really wanted to put the night sky on our son's ceiling to help him fall asleep at night and definitely wanted something that slowly rotated. The description of the Star Theater Pro fit the bill perfectly.

The Reality:

While it does put a decent starry night sky on the ceiling, we had to return the FIRST unit we received because the rotation stopped working in just a few days of use. The SECOND unit we received was choppy and, after just a month or so of use, began making a squealing sound. For the money we spent, we should have gotten a much better built product.

My recommendation is if you're after the rotating aspect of this, don't waste your money. If you don't care if it rotates, there are much cheaper alternatives so don't waste your money. Same with educational interest. Dollars will go much further elsewhere.

Edit:

I bought this on Amazon for over $100. Since I wrote this review, they dropped the price to $40. I still believe that anyone wanting it for the rotation feature shouldn't waste their money, but if you don't want it for that then it is now much more competitively priced.

Got this item a couple of weeks ago and I am overall satisfied with it. Having a higher ceiling is a good thing because the closer the unit is to the ceiling, of course the smaller the image on your ceiling will be. During rotation it occasionally skips a little bit but not too bad. At this price it should not though. Ultimately, I don't think it is worth what it costs. On the positive side, it seems to be much better than the other one's offered out there. It is very relaxing to watch while sitting or lying down. The little slides also seem to be of ok quality. Durability appears good also. The focus control works smoothe too. Some may use it for an educational tool but I use it for relaxing and enjoying. Enjoy it for whatever your taste.

Have had ours for 3 days and have used it several hours each night. It is about the size of a big cantaloupe, very light-weight, and very portable. There are 4 simple push-button controls, 1. Power On-Off, 2. Disc rotation On-Off, 3. Power-off timer you can set for either 30min or 1hr, and 4. Tray-Open. If the timer is not set the planetarium will by default automatically power-off after 2 hours. The Tray-Open function works whether the unit power is On or Off so you can always retrieve or load your star disc independent of the power setting. Instructions indicate to use the projector from 6.5ft-7.5ft from the projection surface. However we have used it on surfaces 8ft away and it works well. There have been some complaints that the rotation motion is jerky. Not so with our unit. During 3 nights of watching (2.0-3.0 hours each night) there was only one brief jerky movement that I saw and that my wife did not. The unit operates on either a supplied plug-in transformer or a set of 3 AA batteries that can be either alkaline or rechargeable - just do not mix them. Running on batteries does not change the brightness or rotation speed but the projector runs cooler when running on batteries. The star disc rotation drive makes no noise that I can hear. The focusing ring is intuitive and easy to use. For kids, the 2 included Milton star discs are fine. However if you want an adult viewing experience then I recommend you get the Northern Hemisphere star disc, the Aurora disc, and the Scenic disc from Miller Engineering. These much, much higher quality Miller star discs change the Milton projector into a home planetarium for adults. The Miller discs are worth the extra expense. You do need to pay attention to correctly loading the star discs.Read more ›
