Product Description

From the Manufacturer

This baby anteater has an appetite for collecting all kind of insects and bugs, but needs your help to find them. After collecting the bugs, watch them in the anteater's removable belly observation chamber. When you're done, safely release them back into nature, right where you both found them.

Product Description

Bring this adorable baby anteater to a park or your own backyard, where he'll happily "vacuum" up all sorts of insects with just the touch of a button. After collecting the bugs, kids can safely observe them in the anteater's see-through belly chamber, then release them unharmed where they found them. Requires 4 AA batteries (not included). For ages 5 and up. Size 12"L x 5-1/2"H

4.0 out of 5 stars QUICK FIX for "Broken" Christmas Gifts December 26, 2012
Durability: 3.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Received two of these as gifts for my boys, neither one worked. Started to question my own ability to follow simple instructions (insert batteries and press a button).

The problem is that the battery pack is poorly manufactured. Some of the gaps on the plastic battery holder are too narrow for the battery's positive terminal/nub to fit in there, preventing it from making contact with the holder's metal plate. Take a close look with a flashlight, and you'll see which batteries aren't touching the metal contact...you can take a utility knife or razor and pare away a narrow sliver of plastic to widen that gap and shazaam, you've got yourself a sucking anteater. Should be an easy, 2-minute fix.

Absolutely think the manufacturer should be responsible for fixing/replacing defective units, but I was happy to avoid the return process and let my kiddos play with what is otherwise a pretty cool toy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works Awesome! December 25, 2012
I see a lot of bad reviews on here, but my 2 1/2 year old son got this for Christmas and it was one of his favorite toys! He has only used it for a day, so I can't say much about its durability over time. But I can tell you that it does just what it is supposed to do. We caught moths, robber flys, ants, and spiders with ease. The vacuum power isn't extremely strong, though, so you can't suck up large insects and you have to have the anteater's nose directly on top of the insect. Also, if you catch real tiny bugs, they can escape. A normal house fly should not be able to escape, but a tiny any will. A medium size ant may stay in. But as long as your using it, the tiny ones don't escape (at least they didn't for us). When you take the container out, just quickly dump the insects in a more sealing container if you really want to keep the little insects. The clear container comes off and on pretty easy, so no problems there! Plus there is a cute little magnifing glass that my son loved! So here is a quick summary of the pros and cons.

Pros:
-Well, it does exactly what it is supposed to do: catch insects.
-Does not harm the insects.
-Easy enough for a 2 year old to use.
-Very cool looking!
-Doesn't suck up lots of random stuff like rocks or sticks.
-Clear container comes off and on easily.
-Neat little magnifying glass on the container.

Cons:
-Can't suck up bigger insects.
-Low suctioning ability, so you have to have the anteater's nose right on top of the insect.
-Tiny insects can escape pretty easy when you take container off.

Hope this helps! I probably would give this a 4 1/2 stars. I want to give it a 5 star, but I feel it needs to be completely perfect for that. It really is a neat toy! Fun for the adults, too!

1.0 out of 5 stars Does not work March 12, 2013

I bought one of these for my son for Christmas, and it did not work. You're supposed to be able to put in the batteries (4 AA) and press a button, so it was not a matter of user error. I returned the product, and ordered a new one, assuming it was just a fluke. However, the 2nd one also did not work once the batteries were installed. My husband, an engineer, was able to rig something up in the battery compartment with a 9 volt battery, and now it works.
I was either really unlucky to get two that didn't work, or there's something wrong with the design of this toy.

A great and funny toy. We don't use it to catch bugs but to catch annoying small monsters that hang around. My granddaughter has had lots of fun with it.
