3.0 out of 5 stars Contains some quality and some sub-quality work.
I am a slow jam fanatic. I had to listen to this CD a few times before it grew on me. However, the track Leave Well Enough Alone touched me immediately. His vocals are adequate though not phenomenol but the background vocals provided by Boys 2 Men are very well done. The lyrics and overall arrangement on this track are above average. Someone Like You is another...

I was actually looking up something online when the reviews from Amazon came up during my search... I went ahead and read them and it touched me that this album has not only touched a few of you, but became what many of the writers had hoped... timeless... Here we are seven years later and you are still buying it. Although the label (Stonecreek Recordings) is now no more, and from what I understand Sam tried with an independent label since (I am not sure on what is happening), this was an amazing experience for me... I know it was for Sam... and especially Boyz II Men. I was just talking to one of my best friends about the MANY tracks that did not make the album... there are so many that supercede the eleven tracks on here... "Can You Feel It"... "I Don't Ever Want to See You Again"... and "Baby You Are" were all great singles and again, I would like to thank you all on behalf of those involved for your positive feedback. No I am not still working with the guys, but again, this project was one we were very, very close to. There were a few artists to come out of the Creek through Boyz II Men, but Uncle Sam kicked it off... and it was amazing how the second single "I Don't Ever Want to See You Again" took off! I remember the first time we all saw Sam perform it... there was not a dry eye in the place... We wanted to find whoever sparked that emotion out of him and beat her down! LOL And Nathan Morris did an OUTSTANDING job with this particular song. Well I could spend forever going down memory lane, but I won't. I just wanted to let you all know that people do read these reviews and again, on behalf of everyone involved... THANKS! (and no I don't get a penny from the product or endorsing it, LOL... I just thought it was good too! I STILL listen to my copies! LOL)

5.0 out of 5 stars R&B at it's best, February 13, 2006
This review is from: Uncle Sam (Audio CD)
Uncle Sam was a very talented singer who never fully got the recongtion he deserved. With his self titled debut Sam took it back to what true R&B should be. Standout tracks include Someone Like You,his cover of Tender Love and the lead single I Don't Ever Want To See You Again.

I really liked the album. I wish he would've came up with another one. I guess he was a one hit wonder.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great overlooked R&B album., September 25, 2002
This review is from: Uncle Sam (Audio CD)
Working in music resale, (I sell here on Amazon!) I'm very attentive as to what albums sell and what ones don't. This one, sadly, is in the "don't" catagory. It only spawned one minor radio hit, which was mostly because of Boyz II Men doing the backing vocals. That really is radio's loss, as this album has plenty of smooth R&B grooves. Many of my favorite albums are in that "don't sell well" catagory, and this one just got added to that list. Unlike many R&B albums, Uncle Sam is consistant on nearly every track, with a romantic sound that just makes you want to hold your signifigant other tight. The weakest track here is his cover of the Force MD's classic "Tender Love", which still isn't bad. The slow jams with soulful crooning makes me think Barry White meets Keith Sweat, and the presence of Boyz II Men's flawless harmonies adds a lot. While hadrly a musical landmark, Uncle Sam is an album that simply feels good. For as little as it sells used here on Amazon, if you like good soulful R&B jams, I highly recommend spending a few dollars and adding it to your collection. Even if you only like a few songs, you at least won't feel like you got ripped off. I sure hope this album's lack of success doesn't stop Uncle Sam from recording a follow up, as I know myself and the few others who have taken the time to really get into this album are eagerly waiting for it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bring Out A Second Album, May 21, 2004
This review is from: Uncle Sam (Audio CD)
This album is tight. Had this album since it dropped in '97' and it still gets played. Just keep the album on for every track. No weak links here. Hot tracks are #1 #2 #4 #5 #7 #9 #11. My favourite song is #9 Baby You Are which is a Boyz 2 Men type love ballad. Bottom line is, that if you like Boyz 2 Men then I promise you will love this joint. Buy it if u aint got it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great R&B Album!, February 15, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Uncle Sam (Audio CD)
I bought this album when it first came out without hesitation. It didn't matter to me that I was taking a chance on a new artist, Uncle Sam had shown me all I needed to know when I saw his " Can You Feel It? " video. It was hot and his voice knocked me off my feet. He does sound a lot like Boys II Men ( and they worked on the album as well ), but he still proved he had a uniqueness many R&B singers don't touch. This is a wonderful album to have. I suggest you snatch it up before it goes out of print. If it is already out of print, then try to scoop up all the copies you can. I don't know if we will ever hear from Uncle Sam again, but I sure enjoyed what he brought to music his first time around. His voice is gold. I hope we hear from him again one day and he doesn't sink into the land of writing-for-other artists like other singers whose albums didn't sell so well. This might not have sold but it was the audience's lost. Uncle Sam did a damn good job.

...Uncle Sam.. His voice is so amazing and the way he sings this song it makes you just wanna cry.. I finally found my mystery song: "I don't ever wanna see you again". This song is the best song ever made. I quickly came to amazon.com & placed the order to buy it, it came and I listened to it repeatidly. After that I decided to listen to the rest of the cd, which by the way is so great! I am so glad I accidently recorded this song that night, and I'm so glad I was able to find the cd. Everybody should own this cd & listen to #11... my mystery song. I LOVE THIS CD!!!!

Someone Like You is another good track that either leaves you lamenting the fact that you do not have a special person; or, if you have a special person it makes you want to hold them close. The remake of Tender Love (originally done by the Force MDs in the late 1980's) could have been better, but that is the case with most remakes. If you can not do it better leave it alone. Uncle Sam should have left that track alone. The rest of the tracks are mediocre with decent music and average lyrics. I am not upset that I brought it but a few more bone chilling ballads would have made me happier.
