Book Description

Walt Disney's Uncle Scrooge December 23, 2008
In Don Rosa's legendary "Guardians of the Lost Library," Scrooge and the Junior Woodchucks crisscross the globe in search of the Lost Library of Alexandria... only to find it in a spot where they'd never, ever thought to look! Two more Scrooge/Woodchucks crossover tales round out the book: in Kari Korhonen's "Senior Woodchuck," Scrooge tries a new way to profit off the hardy scouts, while Mau Heymans' "The Unknown Author" offers a Woodchucks origin story entirely different from Don Rosa's conception!

5.0 out of 5 stars Epic Indiana Jones style adventure with the Junior Woodchucks, April 12, 2010

This review is from: Uncle Scrooge #383 (Walt Disney's Uncle Scrooge) (v. 383) (Paperback)
Uncle Scrooge #383 offers three wonderful stories for all ages. They are all thematically linked by the Junior Woodchucks, the Duckburg (Walt Disney) version of the Boy Scouts. The best of the bunch is the lead feature chronicling the epic search for the fabled Library of Alexandria, one of the Eight Wonders of the Ancient World. Fans of the movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade will surely appreciate both the archaeological adventure and the reference to the Library. But what sets this story above entertaining pulp action is the ability of creator Don Rosa to weave in historical fact and a history of the evolution of written material. The story is both fun and educational too, plus there's a little moral about getting lost in television too. To say anymore would give away some twists.

The second story offers an interesting take on the origins of the famous Junior Woodchuck Manual, repository all things modern learning. It's not as well-structured or informative as the lead but it is definitely fun.

The last story was fairly disposable but adequate.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book to parents looking for a cool story to read their children or comic book afficinados everywhere. The lead story is worth the price of admission alone.
