This book is fantastic. It is not easy to find information on uncommon breeds. And this book provides the reader with all the needed information on many rare breeds. I stongly suggest this book to all dog-lovers who want to learn more about uncommon breeds like Canaan Dogs.

When I began looking for my old copy of The Uncommon Dog Breeds by Kathyrn Braund, a well-known "dog" writer, I couldn't find it. I had lent it once too often!! I order TWO copies of this -- to be sure I have it when it is finally unavailable. This is the BEST account of the origins of breeds that are now widely accepted as AKC registered breeds. It is the most interesting account of the origins of the Anatolian Shepherd I have found. The candid interview with the man who created the breed is interesting and is accompanied by rare photos of the first dogs he owned and their first litter, which was used to found this breed. If you own one of these "uncommon" breeds, this is an especially good book to read and own!
