4.0 out of 5 stars worth it
I ran across this book by chance while doing a generalized search on Amazon, and asked for it as a gift. I admit, I've been burned by bad books too many times recently to want to spend my own money on an author I'd never heard of before.
This book definitely had me hooked; I read it every spare moment. Great characters, great drama, great romance, and obviously...

3.0 out of 5 stars Thin but enjoyable light reading
The plot is thin but the characters are likeable and reasonably well developed, so the book is enjoyable light reading. It's suitable as a mindless holiday read and a good choice if you're after pure romance, but wouldn't stand up to rereading as there's no real depth.

I ran across this book by chance while doing a generalized search on Amazon, and asked for it as a gift. I admit, I've been burned by bad books too many times recently to want to spend my own money on an author I'd never heard of before.
This book definitely had me hooked; I read it every spare moment. Great characters, great drama, great romance, and obviously in-depth research.

The only reason this has a 4 instead of a 5 is for nitpicky reasons. This is an author with a lot of awesome potential; I kept feeling that if the book had only passed through the hands of a dedicated editor, it could have been perfect. And that was mostly just for simple things like typos or grammar mistakes.

Anyway, this is a smart and sexy read that I would definitely recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unusual, realistic and delightful romance, May 24, 2008
This review is from: Uncommon Emotions (Paperback)
This was the first Lynn Galli book I've read, but it will certainly not be my last. Her writing style is refreshing and engaging. The characters are enjoyable and fleshed out. The characters were easy to like and the situations were true to life. The few sex scenes were written in a new manner that really added to the character development. The entire book was imbued with a gentle humor, despite the serious title. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, March 16, 2008

Yet another engaging book from Lynn Galli. This one is a departure from her earlier two which follow a specific group of friends, but the characters she creates here are no less enjoyable. Joslyn seems almost too logical to fall in love, but when she does it's an entertaining ride to follow along. Watching her try to figure out her feelings would normally be frustrating, but the way Galli invites you into her stories makes you as involved as if it were happening to you. And the humor is too good to pass up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Uncommon Emotions?, February 27, 2009

Uncommon Emotions -- perfect title. So many of us "oldsters" can recall those emotions that were so new, so different. Lynn Galli has done a great job with her characters. It's evident that the author has been in both positions -- the formerly "straight" (as far as she knew) woman who is bowled over by her growing feelings for the experienced beauty.
This is a good read. More than a love story, it has a bit of mystery, a bit of adventure, and even laughter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another winner, April 11, 2010
This review is from: Uncommon Emotions (Paperback)
Joslyn Simonini is a company turnaround specialist. A job that usually ends up with the staff of the company she turns around, hating her. She meets Raven Malvolio when she is contacted in to turn the family firm around.
Despite the fact that Joslyn has always considered herself to be straight, she finds herself becoming more and more attracted to Raven.
Then there is the matter of all the obstacles that are put in their way.
This is another extremely good and satisfying read from Lynn Galli. Although this isn't a follow on from her previous two books, we do see a couple of the characters from them make an appearance.

5.0 out of 5 stars pleasant surprise, October 11, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Uncommon Emotions (Paperback)
Initially I was very skeptical in purchasing the book. Partly because I don't have the habit to buy books where I can't flip through some of the chapters, and partly because I have a few bad experiences reading lesbian fictions.

However, this book turns out to be more than a pleasant surprise, and I've finished it within a day. I find it so touching, and particularly in the way that Raven is trying to give room and slowly let Jos come out. And i also like it the fact that the fiction is written in a way that is so believable, so you don't feel you're reading something out of the world. I'm certainly hoping some day I'll find my Raven as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Indescribable, January 23, 2009

When I first got this book I did not know what to expect. Once opening it and reading the first two chapters I went from thinking I will read this when I get a chance to finishing in less than 4 hours. It was an amazing story full of twists and turns and amazing background stories for the main characters. While reading this book I felt like I was there watching a movie because the story just leapt off of the page. I would highly recommend this book. It has some great light scenes all the way to some very intense sex scenes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Emotionally Engaging, September 13, 2010

I picked this book up on a whim, with some motivation from the excerpt, and was thoroughly pleased with the read. In fact, I finished it in about a day and a half. Since I'm a very slow reader, that is a testament to how enjoyable this book was.

Uncommon Emotions is the story of a straight woman coming out and accepting that her soul mate is a woman. It is a light, fluffy, funny, warm hearted, sappy, true love conquers all obstacles romance. You could wring a jug of syrup out of this book; it is that sappy. This is precisely why I love it so much.

The main character, Joslyn, discovers the budding change in her sexuality when she is ambush kissed, by another woman, in a case of mistaken identity. Then she meets Raven, and quickly develops a strong friendship with her. As their friendship grows, Joslyn comes to terms with her attraction to Raven, love works its magic, and the sap begins to flow.

This book is super cute, and includes a pair of epilogues that deliver some added happily ever after goodness. If you like sappy romances, I think you will enjoy this book regardless of whether you are gay or not.

4.0 out of 5 stars Uncommon Emotions - Slow Enjoyable Romance, January 14, 2010

I really enjoyed the story of Raven and Jos. This is the kind of romance that you love reading while curled up in front of a fireplace or at the park on a nice Spring day. The characters had a little more depth to them than in most stories, and I enjoyed how the dogs and cars had a role that didn't take away from the main characters. I loved the story telling, and though at one point, it got a little flat, everything was brought back together to drive your hopes, fears and expectations for where the story was headed and how it would end.

4.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable light read..., November 26, 2008

Having not read Galli before, I wasn't sure what to expect. I have had some disappointments in the past with Lesbian Fiction that is nothing more then a prolonged sexual romp with little else.

Uncommon Emotions, though ripe with fairly graphic and tantalizing sex scenes, manages an actual story along with character development. If I'm honest, I rather enjoyed the delayed gratification the book offered. You are well past the half-way point in the book before the main characters consummate their relationship.

What I thoroughly enjoyed was the fact that Joslyn is aware of the fact that her love for Raven is unique to Raven, and Galli doesn't push the lesbian versus straight argument. Instead, you are taken into the lives of two women, one self-identified as lesbian, and the other falling in love for the first time with a person who happens to be a woman, and you come to know both women and really feel a part of their relationship as it develops.
