Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

There's not much left to say about Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, especially since her untimely death last spring opened the floodgates to both written and pictorial remembrances. So this collection of largely familiar photographs--designed and edited by J. C. Suar{Š}es, who worked with Jackie on various Doubleday projects including Michael Jackson's Moonwalk--may seem a bit superfluous. On the other hand, Jackie's still-grieving fans will find much to enjoy here, as the 100 black-and-white photos chronicle the former first lady's life from childhood, tony boarding schools, and Vassar, through marriages, motherhood, and later years. The text that accompanies the many photos is largely perfunctory, but there are some interesting quotes from friends. More revealing is an introduction by stepsister Nina Auchincloss, who offers an intimate look at a more fun-loving Jackie, less the ethereal presence who emerges in many of the photos. There is nothing really special about this book, but it has a certain style, not unlike Jackie herself. And if celebrity watching has taught us anything over the last 50 years, it's taught us never to underestimate the popularity of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Ilene Cooper
