4.0 out of 5 stars Gypsies, nobility, spies and love - they don't mix, July 9, 2009

This review is from: Uncommon Intrigue/An (Regency Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
From the back of the book:

Of noble birth on her father's side, Miss Mary Elizabeth Sinclair was decidedly startled to have the British Home Office employ her as a spy. While she did not mind rejoining her mother's gypsy family, nor posing as "Tasha" the fortune-teller while traveling the English border, she did mind the partner who'd been assigned to her. Lord Eric Stewart was an admittedly handsome King's agent, but his arrogance infuriated her! Nevertheless, she could not halt the delightfully disturbing feelings that sparked between them. Tasha expected to face dangers on her mission, but she suspected that giving her heart to this haughty, headstrong rogue would be the most reckless hazard of all.

Of all the confounded situations! Lord Eric Stewart had faced many a peril as a spy for his Majesty's government, but none were as startling as his mission with this "Tasha." It was risky enough trying to discover the strength of French fleets massing against England by traveling with a band of gypsies! But it was downright mystifying why he was allowing himself to become increasingly distracted by the beautiful Tasha's wide crystalline eyes and rose-red lips. Eric never would have chosen involvement with a gypsy . . . yet, he knew this exotic minx was undeniably drawing him into a most intriguing passion . . . .

I really loved Tasha in this book. Not only was she capable and strong in both the Gypsy way of life and with the English nobility, but she faced her feelings for Eric head on and never gave up in spite of his constant rejection. Eric, on the other hand, was not a favorite. I could understand his resistance of her at first but by the end of the book, he was acting more like a spoiled, little child. Aunt Harriet was wonderful! I loved her spunky personality and her support of Tasha. This was a good and quick read although not among my favorites.
