Duke Ellington In the Uncommon MarketThe first seven numbers were recorded during Ellington's European tour during the winter of 1963. As far as I can tell "Bula," "Asphalt Jungle" and "Star Crossed Lovers" were recorded at the Koncerthuset in Stockholm Sweden of February 6, 1963. "Silk Lace" (a.k.a. "Caline") was not performed at this concert, though it was performed in Helsinki the on February 5, in Copenhagen on February 8, and in Kalmar, Sweden on February 9, 1963. Again as far as I can tell, "In a Sentimental Mood," and "ESP" (a.k.a. Broad Stream) were recorded at Milan on February 21, 1963. "Guitar Amour" was not performed at this concert, but it was performed in Kalmar, Sweden on February 9, 1963, Zurich, Switzerland on February 19, 1963, and at many other concerts on Ellington's European tour of 1963. The two versions of "The Shepherd" and "Kinda Dukish" were recorded on July 26, 1966. John Lamb is the bass player and Sam Woodyard is the drummer on these numbers. The above information can be found in Nielsen's "Jazz Records, 1942-1980 Volume 6--Duke Ellington."
