Editorial Reviews

Review

"This book offers a wealth of down-to-earth and practical advice. No detached academic author here! Dr. Riera is in the trenches with lots of hands-on experience to pass on to frustrated parents and teens alike."
—Dr. Dean Edell

This book has been enormously helpful for me as a parent. I understand now why my daughter acts the way she does sometimes.

Having just entered the other universe of "parenting a teenager," I desperately needed sound advice and wise counsel. I came across this book in the local library and was immediately attracted to it.

Dr. Riera writes as if you were sitting across from him in his office. His style pinpoints many of the common issues that cause conflicts between teens and their parents. What makes this book stand out is that he also explains the scientific basis for why your teen behaves as if he was from another planet (its because the rational part of his brain is not fully developed). Sounds like simple enough information, but it is so good to remember when your teen acts like an alien (Sometimes I swear I am going to see three heads and antennas pop out!)

This book has been a lifesaver. Instead of constant, cylical battles of words, I can step back and say, "not now." It may drive my teen crazy, but I am comforted in knowing that I kept the peace and the control of the situation.

If you are parenting a teen, you must read this book. At the very least, it will provide a glimpse into their world (and bring peace back into yours).

This is a good book to aid parents in working well with their kids. The author is down to earth and certainly well informed and clear headed. He make a great deal of sense in sorting through the emotions to get to the way to positively influence relationships. I have enjoyed it and his other book as well.
