Uncover Me has a different setting than a lot of dark or MC romances. It's about the stolen antiquity trade, and it takes place in the Aegean on a small island that might be related to the ancient legends of the Trojan War. The heroine, a photographer, falls into the hands of the smugglers after they catch her documenting an illegal exchange. The gang wants her dead. But Nick, the hero, decides to keep her alive as long as she demonstrates her loyalty by acting submissive to him.

As soon as they get to the island and meet the villain, things get complicated. Is Nick really who he claims to be? Can Ellie cope with her crippling claustrophobia in a dark cavern? Will Nick and Ellie ever learn to trust each other? The suspense kept me riveted.

Really interesting and different...recommended!

I received an ARC eBook in exchange for an honest review. This is the first book I have read by Linda Barlow and it won't be my last! This romantic suspense was filled with adventure, action, a touch of BDSM and lots of romantic passion! Ellie is a heroine that has to face her fears to survive and is rewarded with finding a beautifully flawed hero to love. Nick is the total package: sexy, strong, passionate and just the right amount of possessive! Yes, there is some profanity (lots of f-bombs), but it is in keeping with the smuggler's world the author is painting for us. I thoroughly enjoyed it and couldn't put it down! I just had to find out what would happen next!

Pirates. Sexy pirates. Criminal, sexy pirates. Did I mention PIRATES?! If there’s one thing I love, its a cocky, demanding, dirty talking pirate - and boy did I get one in this book. This book was a surprise to me, while the synopsis drew me in, the cover did not. I was unsure what I was going to get - and boy am I glad that I didn’t judge it by its cover as I was first inclined to. If I had, I wouldn’t have met Ellie and Nick, two very memorable characters. Linda Barlow does a great job of blending the unsavory lifestyles of piracy with the history of artifacts, particularly focused on the missing treasure of Troy. I found it to be extremely interesting and not too over the top. Some books can get carried away on the backstory, but that wasn’t the case in this one and that really pleased me.

Ellie Heath has a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. While vacationing in Turkey, she heads out to enjoy her love of photography and capture some beautiful early morning shots of the sunrise over the ocean. Never in her wildest dreams does she expect to be witness to a crime...or to photograph said crime. When she realizes the yacht at the dock is making an illegal exchange of artifacts, her ethics and morality overcome her sense of self preservation and she captures the entire exchange as quietly as possible. Unfortunately for her, she isn’t as stealthy as she might have hoped and the images on film aren’t the only thing that gets captured..

Nick can’t believe it when they pull the tiny, red-haired beauty from her hiding spot. This is the spy? While his client demands her life for her indiscretion, he cannot bring himself to do it. Instead, he takes her as his captive, determined to have his fill of her before her releases her safely.

I was looking for a change of pace in darkish romance, and thought the modern day pirate idea might have some merit. This was not nearly gritty enough - actually, not gritty at all - to handle the proposed plot line and have it come off as even slightly believable. I felt like I was reading Johanna Lindsey from 25 years ago, which I will admit, I loved at the time.

I think the reader was supposed to not understand who the good guys were from the bad, but there were so many obvious character portrayals that there was never any doubt who would get an HEA and who would end up in jail. The misdirects were extremely weak, and Nick always gave away too much info.

You know Nick is not a bad guy, and Ellie knows that as well. He subdues her with a Vulcan shoulder pinch (really!) instead of knock on the head. He only tied her up once. He was very reasonable about if she followed the rules, he wouldn't hurt her, etc. She had to make her own trouble by not following the rules. The only darkish scene was the one day of training, and even that was harmless compared to most in this genre. Therefore, there was never any doubt that about him doing something for the greater good, and thus no real suspense.

I liked Ellie for the most part, except she couldn't control herself and exercised bad judgment around dangerous people. I also like that she and Nick had enough in common (outside of sex) to actually have a connection to make the romance believable - that part was well done.

Nick and Ellie were a great couple! He was trying to train her to be a slave, a submissive. I say trying, Ellie wasn’t a natural submissive!! She had a sassy mouth, particularly when she sussed out a few things about Nick.

Nick, the unlikely hero. I say unlikely because when you read this book, I think you will agree with me that the hero who saves the day isn't Nick but..... oooh can't tell you! He started off a bit intimidating for Ellie, but then softened, he actually only wanted to protect Ellie.

The bit that actually made me laugh (and probably the bit where all the female readers say dirty b@stard lol) was what Nick did to Ellie while she was tied up!! Maybe I won’t be the only one to smile and say bullseye!!

Throughout this book, when I thought I had worked out what was going on, the author threw a curve ball and took me by surprise!

It was a very intelligently written story. Descriptive but not to the point of distraction. The author took me on a journey of intrigue, kidnapping, stolen artefacts, history, family feuds and threw in lots of twists and turns to keep me guessing until the end.

I read this book in one sitting, it was THAT good.

5 stars from me.
