Madeline Holton was once again living at home doing penance. She had screwed up her dream job at the Jacksonville PD, and was home doing an interim job trying to repair her reputation. She didn't want to be at the Chandler County Sheriff's Department where she had once been on the other side of the law. The only reason she was offered this opportunity was because this department was her brother-in-law's house, and he had extended the offer. Mad had serious reservations as to if she could stick this short assignment out because the bane of her existence was at the department. Tick Calvert was a huge reminder of the worst mistake of her life, and she had no illusions about his reaction to seeing her again.Ash Hardison knew his life would never be the same after meeting Mad. Their attraction had been instant and intense. She was a mess. He could see that right away, and the fact that his best friend Tick had warned him off, spoke volumes to the problems of her past. Ash was so intrigued; he knew the effort it would take to crack the walls of her heart would be worth it. He just hoped she could acknowledge it before her time in Georgia was up. When the past started interfering with the present, Ash only hoped Mad would survive the fallout. This is another good addition to the Hearts of the South series. Mad had experienced such a horrible childhood that it colored her entire life. She had been running from her past until she landed back where she started, forcing her to put her past to rest. Ash is such a good man. He is strong, kind and so incredibly patient. It really does take the love of a good man. One thing I really love about this series is that the books include the other characters we have gotten to know and love. The characters are really well defined, but the story arc falls short being somewhat anticlimactic. This story isn't as strong as previous offerings, but well worth a read. |
