5.0 out of 5 stars Only the Fearful downplay THIS one!
I have been dx'd with DID/MPD for over 2 yrs, and I found everything that Dr. Freisen has published to be biblically sound, helpful, and insightful. This book is no different. Dr. Freisen has a heart for the wounded and broken - and FINALLY a christian is willing to admit that MPD/DID is NOT demonic - is NOT the survivor's fault - but is the end result of abuse! I am...

1.0 out of 5 stars This book can ruin your life - it did mine
This book, in the hands of individuals who are easily led, can be destructive. I realize the reality of the mental illness this book depicts, but the author presents Multiple Personality Disorders as being as frequently encountered as the common cold and just as easily contracted. Having done much research on this topic (and having been a victim of the author, as my...

5.0 out of 5 stars Uncovering the Mystery of MPD, April 1, 2007
By
This review is from: Uncovering the Mystery of MPD (Paperback)
I can not stress enough the importance of reading this book if you have someone in your life with MPD. At the time of my review I was able to read 14 reviews both pro and con for this book and I felt compelled to comment on my experience. This book was recommended to me by a therapist who treated clients with MPD and knew that I had taken into my home an 18 year old girl who has MPD. I bought this book and Dr. Friesen's book, "More Than Survivors". Although some of the information is heart wrenching I found that the more I understood, the more I could help this young girl who had only experienced rejection and unbelief by others in her life up to this point. There is no doubt when someone has MPD if the other personalities feel safe enough to emerge in your presence. What I learned from these two books was to give unconditional love as I treated each personality in the way they needed to be treated. I am amazed at the progress that she has had in the short 6 months time that she has been here. I am humbled and grateful that God chose to use me to bring healing to her life. I would still be at a loss~~ depending only on misguided information that the media spits out~~ if not for these two books that Dr. Freisen was courageous enough to write. Anything in life, good and bad can be misused or misunderstood......as could these books. Used properly, these are awesome tools to provide health and healing to someone who has been victimized in ways we would never have imagined. I would give them 10 stars if I could.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent resourse, December 3, 2002

Dr. Friesen writes in a style that is so very easy to understand. This a great resourse for any with MPD\DID. It is great for the families and churches who are dealing with a person who has MPD\DID. Basic MPD\DID 101 that will give you an excellent grasp of the unique condition MPD\DID. I use this guide as a reference for my DWJD team and as a counseling tool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful & Informative!, July 9, 2002
This review is from: Uncovering the Mystery of MPD (Paperback)
This book is most excellent and I would recommend it for anyone who had been diagnosed with MPD/DID as well as any therapist who works with dissociative clients. This book is full of information and I found it so very helpful. Our Christian parts appreciated this book cuz it helped them understand things from a spiritual standpoint and also helped the MPD diagnosis not feel so scary to them. It is written from a Christian point of view which I really loved and found comforting as well. I really appreciate Dr. Friesen and his effort to spread the word about how prevalent DID really is as well as how to heal from it. He also has written a book called "More Than Survivors" that uplifts multiples and shows them as more than survivors and thrivers. VERY uplifting and encouraging and we think a must read, too :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Book full of God's Compassion and Sound theology, March 27, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Uncovering the Mystery of MPD (Paperback)
This book is by far the best I have read on this subject. It gives both the professional, the survivor, and just those interested the same amount of attention. Dr. Friesen has much wisdom and I appreciate his bravery in approaching such a controversial issue. This book would be an excellent one for every founded christian to read, so as to minister to God's wounded children.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Book!, May 22, 2000
By
This review is from: Uncovering the Mystery of MPD (Paperback)
This is a must have book for counselors and those working in a "true" inner healing/deliverance ministry. It was comforting to know that many of the things this book talks about, we were already doing or God was doing through us. All SRA survivers should read this book as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars excellent resource with some glitches, May 4, 2008
By
This review is from: Uncovering the Mystery of MPD (Paperback)
I was given this book to read by a priest because of the struggles of a family member. The information provided is sound and well researched and kudos to the author for giving more exposure to Satanic Ritual Abuse--what it is and how it destroys lives.

I have a couple of qualms with the book and they are minor. I have read the reviews accusing the book/author of destroying lives, and yet I would hold that minister and myself accountable. I found critical thinking quite helpful in reading this book, especially since it is dated--I have the 1991 version. I was especially confused by the author's use of the term inner voices (dont we all kind of dialogue with ourselves as we make decisions?) and merging in reference to the alters. Isn't integration of a fragmented self the goal of even more mundane diagnoses? I only wish Friesen had been a little more specific in his meaning in the use of these terms.

That said, what he meant came a little clearer later in the book. I really respected his caution not to go around exorcising demons out of those with MPD, but rather to accept each personality and attempt to befriend it. I congratulate Friesen on his boldness in taking the initiative in a field that often rejects that which it cannot quantify and objectify, to bring to light the prevalence and deleltarious effects of ritual abuse.

This book is well worth the read and offers great insight into MPD and ritual abuse. I would caution those who are easily swayed into absorbing what they read to think for themselves and read critically.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Tool, April 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Uncovering the Mystery of MPD (Paperback)
When I was diagnosed with MPD (now DID) back in 1992 I was confused and angry. Actually, my therapist suspected MPD back in August 1991 and didn't confirm it until after Feb 1992 after I was raped. He didn't even tell me until November 1992. And I didn't get the book from him until mid 1993. And the only reason I was given it at all was to help me understand my disorder.

So the fool before should realize that those statements are damaging to those of us that really do suffer from DID.

Excellent book from a man who really understands us.
