As a fan of zombie fiction, and fiction in general, and as a giant fan of my Kindle, I am pretty familiar with a lot of self-published authors and their works. One unfortunate characteristic that many of them share is the lack of any editing.
In his introduction, Mark thanks his wife for her support while writing the book. His wife should have shown her support by hiring an editor, or even acting as an editor for him herself. Mark: I beg you. Pay someone to edit your book. Hell, I will edit it for you for free. But it is so incredibly difficult to read your story through the massive amount of typos and problematic grammatical mechanics that I have to force myself to finish it. Your story isn't a bad one, but your writing is abysmal. I'm sorry for saying so, but it just can't be avoided. I would say this is the second worse written book I have ever read on the Kindle. Not story wise, but writing wise. I would give it a higher ranking if the author were to fix the thousands of grammatical errors in his novel. Probably a three star, as I still felt the character development was very choppy in parts. Additionally, there was way too much repetition, and quite a lot of stereotypes. I have not read his other books, and until such time as I can be assured that the editing of those books is significantly improved from his debut novel, I will not be spending the money or wasting my time.

I love the book. Great story and characters. Could have used an editor but story makes up for it. you are a fabulous writer, keep the books coming.

The plot concept is good.
That said I found that the spelling and grammer errors ruined the read. I'm sorry but I also found the writing to be choppy. Some of the compairisons just seemed out of place and some sentences were repeated rendishions used to fill space. I encourage Zombie fans to give it a try, it's just in my opinion I found the flow of the story to be semi non-existant. But you don't have to take my word for it.

I have read all of Mark Clodi e-books, fun and entertaining. Not high-works of art by a long shot. Enjoyable would be the word. He does need to have someone proofread the books before he e-published. Having someone proofread his books would help fix the misspellings and other issues that sometime get in the way. One example is he used the word "class when it should have been glass" in "About a Woman". However, you can easily read pass the errors.
Mark I am not a writer but if would like you can send me your books I would be happy to proofread them for you. I like how he ties all the books together, with people that show up from time to time in each book. I would recommend all of his books including his new one that he is working on. |
