Book Description

Undead in the City is an erotic vampire novella (40,000 words). This story can also be found in the Vampires! A Bundle of Bloodsuckers compilation.

Blood, Sex and Rock 'n' Roll in the Motor City

Musician Tempest Moon is a take-no-shit lead guitar player in the inner city of Detroit. She's had a rough road, and doesn't expect things to get any better.

Tired of his immortal life, Malveaux is an undead assassin used to calling the shots and getting what he wants. No matter what the cost.

When they meet, the blood hits the fan. Neither will ever be the same.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding vampire fiction June 27, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
"Undead In The City" is a total delight to read. Erotic elements aside, which Hilburn makes an important part of the story, this is a well-crafted novella with compelling and memorable characters. The wry humor is a bonus to the fine writing here with such delightful lines as "Although a vampire assassin was rather redundant" and "A tightening in his groin brought him back to the present, and he wondered again whether someone could die from a hard-on."

The prose is vivid, yet never overdone, and shows a wonderful flare for vampire humor. The two strong main characters are the highlight of this piece. The author superbly puts the reader into their heads. She also brings humanity to Malveaux's character.

There is nothing I didn't like about this novella. It's strong on the three points I look for in any writing: story, characters, and writing. Even though the novella is short, the story and character arc are remarkably well drawn. We see changes in both of the characters over the course of the story. Just as important is that, being erotica, it DOES have a strong story line, something not all erotica has. The story integrates the sex and non-sex aspects very well. The test of a good piece of erotica is whether the story line works without the sex in it. In other words, is the sex gratuitous? Here it's definitely not gratuitous because--as I said--the sex (or rather Malveaux's inescapable drive to create an offspring) forms an integral part of the story. It goes beyond the sex itself, yet it would not be as rich a story line without it. The sex scenes enhance and enrich the story, and they add a good touch of humor as well.

My only (admittedly small) complaint about this novella is that I wanted it to last longer. As soon as the story ended, I was already missing the characters. I sincerely hope that the author will write a sequel (or two) because I'd love to see more of Malveaux and Tempest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Malveaux Fan September 5, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
Don't judge before you read for yourself. I personally LOVE Lynda Hillburn's work from her Kismet series to her erotica works. If you are looking for sleazy lower-case b porno with no plot or storyline to speak of, you may not be a fan. It was well written, just as any of her other fiction publications that I've read so far. The Assassin and the rocking feminist were a great team. There was action and blood baths as well as passion and love. What more could you want from a great supernatural or more specifically a vampire novel? I loved it! Thanks for putting out another great work of fiction, Lynda!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilburn scorches the pages June 27, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
Lynda Hilburn certainly knows her stuff--whether it's music or sizzling hot vampire romance. This page turner shows why Hilburn is a winner in the vampire romance genre. Her characters jump off the page, her rock singer heroine is tough and sexy, warm and wary. The vampire love interest is hot and powerful, a combination that is sure to make sparks jump off the page and burn your fingers as you turn each one. This is a hit comparable to her vampire shrink series. I wasn't disappointed and I always look for more of her work. Hurry up and get some more out there, I want blood, I want romance, and I want another book in my hands--NOW!

I loved this book. Malveaux is one of the sexiest vampires I've seen lately and Tempest is just outrageously hot and fun. Who'd have thought Detroit could be this exciting?

More About the Author

Lynda Hilburn writes paranormal fiction. More specifically, she writes stories about vampires, witches, psychics, ghosts and other supernatural characters. After a childhood filled with invisible friends, sightings of dead relatives and a fascination with the occult, turning to the paranormal was a no-brainer. In her other reality, she makes her living as a licensed psychotherapist, hypnotherapist, professional psychic/tarot reader, university instructor and workshop presenter. The rewritten and expanded version of her first novel, "The Vampire Shrink" -- which introduced us to Denver Psychologist Kismet Knight and a hidden vampire underworld -- was released by Quercus Books (UK/Europe), September, 2011, and Sterling Publishing/Silver Oak (North America), April, 2012. Blood Therapy, book #2 in the series, released in the UK, September, 2012 and will arrive in the USA, Feb., 2013. Several more books are planned. E-versions of her vampire novella, "Undead in the City," her short stories (vampire humor/satire) "Diary of a Narcissistic Bloodsucker," and "Devereux: The Night Before Kismet," are available on Amazon.com and other sites. A Kismet Knight mini-story, "Until Death Do Us Part," is permanently free on Amazon. Her short story, "Blood Song," is part of the Mammoth Book of Paranormal Romance anthology, April, 2009.
