3.0 out of 5 stars My Review of Undefeated, July 5, 2005
This review is from: The Undefeated Ohio State Buckeyes (DVD)
First of all, something you need to know before ordering this DVD, and there is nothing in the product information that would indicate this. This DVD is about the 1968 undefeated team, NOT the 2002 undefeated team.

The DVD is hosted by a radio personality from Columbus, and he interviews Coach Earl Bruce, and a player from the team, Larry Zelina. They briefly discuss the entire season, game by game, and then show highlights of each game, after the discussion. With one exception, the highlights of the Rose Bowl game are minimal, and done as the video end credits run.

The game film is black and white, but not bad considering the age, and has been digitally remastered. Overall, not bad, and a good "history lesson" of one of OSU's all time great teams for the younger fans.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, January 27, 2009

This review is from: The Undefeated Ohio State Buckeyes (DVD)
The 1968 Ohio State football team was undefeated and handily took apart USC in the Rose Bowl. The Buckeyes on that great national championship team deserved better than this amateurish production. Here's what's wrong with it:

(1) A very limited unmber of plays are available from each game during the season. Not even all the scoring plays are included. The plays are in grainy black and white, but that is perhaps unavoidable.

(2) Between game films is pointless commentary by a gushing sportscaster, Earl Bruce (an assistant coach in 1968) and Larry Zelina (a member of the 1968 team). If the commentaries had me left out, more of the actual plays of the game might have been added. I'd have preferred the grainy films to the chatter.

(3) The reconstituted play by play was done by an announcer who gets confused by who is on offense and who is on defense.

(4) The disk menu lists the Rose Bowl game after the Michigan game, but not one single play of the Rose Bowl is included. Instead the commentary tells us a little about it, mostly about what an honor it was to have O.J. Simpson drop by the locker room after the game.

Alas, this is all that available on that memorable season, except for a separate disk on the Rose Bowl.
