When the anesthesia wore off, Pat Martino looked up hazily at his parents and his doctors. and tried to piece together any memory of his life.

One of the greatest guitarists in jazz, Martino had suffered a severe brain aneurysm and underwent surgery after being told that his condition could be terminal. After his operations he could remember almost nothing. He barely recognized his ... Read more in Amazon's Pat Martino Store

Editorial Reviews

Long before he became a world renowned jazz guitarist Pat Martino was a sideman in small combos that prominently featured the Hammond B-3 organ. He's never lost his affection for that particular group dynamic so here Martino sounds perfectly content enhancing the rhythm section's soulful thrust while, at the same time, his post-bop, minor mode improvising is sleek and precise. A live recording with the full-throated tenor sax of Eric Alexander, drummer Jeff "Tain" Watts and Tony Monaco keeping the B-3 pedals to the metal, Undeniable promises to be one of 2011's most exciting releases.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Gift That Keeps Giving! December 3, 2011
By Brent
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Pat has been undeniably a great gift to the jazz world and continues to prove this here on this album. This is a high energy interplay with jazz's top musicians Eric Alexander, Tony Monaco, and Jeff Tain Watts. I've always loved the organ trio sound, particularly Pat's take on this sub-genre of jazz. Eric Alexander adds that extra ingredient that pushes you over the edge. My favorite on this CD is "Lean Years" which is one of Pat's signature tunes from his early years. This is a must have for Pat Martino and jazz fans. I live in the DC area and am sorry I missed this performance about 2 years ago. All I can say is wow!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great playing - ordinary mix November 13, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase

This is a great disc. The recording captures a lot of the atmosphere of the gig and features Pat heavily.
Everyone plays exceptionally well. My only gripe is the organ is not mixed well, too much bass and the right hand is feint when soloing. Not a deal breaker, but as a fan and student of Tony Monaco, I was hoping to hear him better.

Pat Martino is great, that's a no brainer. This recording is a welcome addition to his Discography and the playing by all members is first rate as you would expect. 5 stars for the music!!

The problem with this recording is the recording itself. The mix is average at best, the mastering is awful. The recording sounds like it was recorded in a shoe box. Either that or the engineer had ear muffs on his head while performing the audio mastering.

There's really no excuse or reason why a modern day recording should sound this bad except for bad engineering.

Just so you know I'm listening to this recording on $6,000 speakers with about $5,000 worth of CD, Pre-Amp and Power-Amp gear so it's not my system.

Maybe one day we'll get a high quality live Pat Martino recording that is mixed and mastered properly but for now, this ain't it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars ANOTHER GREAT ONE FROM PAT October 13, 2011
Format:Audio CD
I have to confess...I am a Pat Martino fanatic and have waited for what seems like forever for this new album. this is the 4th live album in his discography but so what? This is just another wonderful addition to Pat's catalogue.

If you like fabulous guitar playing and a solid rythm section and great songs, this is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Undeniably Good June 26, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
My research for this CD was a good one.
Reading the linner on Pat with his return to music, after his life threatening illness gave me a greater appreciation of life and things that are taken for granted.
The live recording on this CD has you, toe tapping, head shaking, or singing those parts of the chorus like your their.
This CD brings you an understanding of what live music is all about.
You won't go wrong on the purchase of this one.
