By including a version of Joni Mitchell's "The Arrangement" from Joni's Ladies of the Canyon album, Jenny Goodspeed clearly pays homage to her inspiration. Goodspeed's version of the song has pep and pulses appealingly with Jenny's expressive vocals, "Racing cars, whiskey bars; No one really cares who you are." "Mainesong" has a lovely chorus & Goodspeed's vocals strong on the verse, "Looking for some little treasure, tumbled smooth by silt and spray, Searching for a means to measure what I mean to you today." "The Good Daughter" is another strong track with Beth Amsel's harmonies giving a full sound, "Say goodbye to expectations, standards of decency; Say goodbye to Eve & Mary; You'll find me somewhere in between." Goodspeed slows the tempo on the lovely "Jonah," "We could sleep outside & listen for the coyotes & feel the earth spinning 'neath our spines intertwined." "Every Third Day" attracts you with its peppy folk hook, "I hope you find what you're looking for; And just about every third day I really mean that." "Under the Ash" that opens the set is a strong track with Goodspeed's powerful vocals, "Under your sweater I felt right at home, Under my bed sits a shoebox of letters; Read 'em or leave them alone; I'm fine on my own." "Under the Ash Tree" is a strong set from this excellent folk artist. Enjoy!

Great album, very reminiscent of Joni Mitchell with a slight americana/bluegrass twist. "Mainesong" and "S-Curve Roads" are my personal favorites, and are sure to resonate with anyone who grew up in New England. I look forward to Jenny's next album!
