5.0 out of 5 stars This Really Did Bring Back Memories
I remember being about five years old and performing "Tears On My Pillow" and "A Million To One" for my family on top of our coffee table.Hearing these songs again truly did "Bring Back the Memories" for me, funny considering I was only three when this album was released.

3.0 out of 5 stars New Editions Blue Moon
I'm gonna give them an A for effort, and a B- for actual. The remake of the Penguins' Earth Angel, and Little Anthony and the Imperials' Tears On My Pillow stand out to me as the 2 remakes that grabbed me the most off this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Really Did Bring Back Memories, March 19, 2002

I remember being about five years old and performing "Tears On My Pillow" and "A Million To One" for my family on top of our coffee table.Hearing these songs again truly did "Bring Back the Memories" for me, funny considering I was only three when this album was released.
These songs sound as great today as they did 16 years ago.New Editions harmonies were tight, Ralph Tresvants voice sounds sweet and angelic throughtout the album and the guest appearance by Little Anthony are some of what made this album so special. The best songs here are "Earth Angel", "A Thousand Miles Away", "Blue Moon" and "Since I Don't Have You".The highlight of this album has to be "A Million To One" where the guys give an amazing performance. The only.."new" song on the album is "Bring Back the Memories", a cute song where the men of N.E sing about how the songs on the album are special and nostalgic and comment about how different things were when songs like "Duke of Earl" were originally released in comparison to the 80's.
I highly recommend this album to anyone who loves doo-wop,New Edition or like me enjoyed the warm memories of a time when things were much more simple...whether that be the 1960's or the 1980's.

5.0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL ARRANGEMENTS OF OLDIES, October 26, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Under Blue Moon (Audio CD)
I DISCOVERED THIS CD A FEW YEARS AGO. I ACCIDENTALLY PICKED IT UP IN A RETAIL STORE ATTRACTED TO A COVER THAT LOOKED LIKE ONE FROM THE 50S AND 60S. AT THAT TIME I HAD NEVER EVEN HEARD OF THE NEW EDITION . I WAS IN MY EARLY 50S AND JUST DONT LISTEN TO THEIR USUAL MUSIC, WHEN I PICKED UP THE CD AND SAW THAT ALL THE SONGS EXCEPT ONE WERE GREAT OLDIES FROM THE 50S AND EARLY 60S MY CURIOSITY FORCED ME TO BUY IT. AFTER ALL HOW BAD COULD THESE GREAT SONGS BE. WHEN I LISTENED TO IT I WAS I WAS THRILLED WITH MY PURCHASE. I REALLY HAVE TO SAY THESE ARE FANTASTIC ARRANGEMENTS OF THOSE GREAT OLDIES. I AM NOT GOING TO SAY THAT EVERY SONG IS AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL BUT I WILL SAY THEY ARE ALL VERY CLOSE TO BEING AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL. I DONT THINK THERE ARE ANY BETTER COVERS OF THESE SONGS. IT MAKES ME FEEL BAD THEY DID NOT DO MORE OF THESE OLDIES ALBUMS INSTEAD OF THE CONTEMPORARY STUFF THEY DO. IN FACT WITH MANY OF THE ORIGINAL ARTISTS FROM THE 50S AND 60S DYING OFF AND OTHERS GETTING TOO OLD TO PERFORM THESE GUYS COULD REINVENT THEMSELVES DOING OLDIES SHOWS. GIVE THIS ALBUM A CHANCE THE ONLY BAD THING I CAN SAY ABOUT IS THAT THERE ARE ONLY 10 SONGS ON IT. I WOULD HAVE LIKED ABOUT 90 MORE. ALL YOU OLDIE FANS BUY IT. YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU DID.

5.0 out of 5 stars Revisiting the Doo-Wop era, January 21, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Under Blue Moon (Audio CD)
This album was one of my favorites. Since I grew up with oldies but goodies and I love New Edition this album was a perfect fit. My favorite group singing classic Doo-Wop favorites. I adored it. This album is not for everyone though. If you have no clue about oldies & Doo-Wop, skip it. It's too advanced for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Boston's "Jackson 5" covers the "oldies-but-goodies"!, April 20, 2006

Contractually,New Edition released their fourth album, this one,in 1986. In the three previous years, they released their first three, one per year. Johnny Gill,Ralph Tresvant,Ronnie Devoe,Michael Bivins and Ricky Bell do excellent covers of hit songs from the fifties and early sixties(back when their parents were teenagers) on this album. One Top 10 hit from this album is EARTH ANGEL,a hit for the Penguins in 1954. Also there's Gene Chandler's 1961 hit DUKE OF EARL. Many "oldies-but-goodies" fans will love this album especially with TEARS ON MY PILLOW. My mother and a few friends of hers are those fans. You can see on the cover that the quintet are spoofing a fifties-style R&B performance. Original NE member Bobby Brown had left the group after the release of the group's third album,ALL FOR LOVE. Gill filled in for Brown. Brown,in '86,released his not-too-successful solo debut KING OF STAGE. His second album,DON'T BE CRUEL,followed in 1988 and spawned four Top 20 hits. The other "oldies-but-goodies" are excellent!

This really is a great CD. The boys needed to record a CD and still stinging from the departure of Bobby Brown they decided to do a cover album of the music their parents listened to. The choice of songs is wonderful and their harmonies are always great. They weren't quite great vocalists at this age yet but the songs are easy to listen to they appear to be having fun singing them. The final track is an original cut by the boys which wraps up the entire album on how these songs do indeed bring back the memories.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not too bad for an album of nothing but famous covers, December 12, 2009
This review is from: Under Blue Moon (Audio CD)
As one the groups at the forefront of contemporary R&B in the 80s, it might have come as a surprise to some people that New Edition would make an album of nothing but famous oldies. That said, it mostly turned out to be a good idea. Ralph Tresvant's singing is a big plus, and had he been around at the time that some of these songs were originally made, he would have been a great lead singer for them. The production is unmistakably 80s, but with enough restraint so as not strip these great oldies of their dignity. On the minor downside of things, there is a bit of a lack of creativity, with some of the songs sounding very much like the originals, but this is pleasant listening overall, and certainly good if you like to hear classic songs with more of a contemporary vibe.
