Not wide enough,

The cookbook holder is well constructed but most of the cookbooks I use don't fit, so it will probably not get used that much. Measure the cookbooks you use most before you order this item.

Sturdy and convenient,

My wife received this for Christmas and I finally got to installing it yesterday. We love this thing! It's pretty sizable and sturdy to boot. The installation only took 5 minutes, which thrilled me to death! One thing that almost upset me was the fact that the instructions are printed on the template used for positioning and alignment. However, I realized that the template wasn't going to do me any good as we wanted the holder installed across 2 cabinets with a little lip in the middle where the cabinets met. This turned out to be a non-issue, though. I basically held the holder in place while my wife made pencil marks in the screw holes. It even turns out that that step wasn't really necessary either. The 4 screws that it uses to mount are pointed (self-tapping), so I was actually able to install the unit without drilling! Once installed, it worked great. My wife wanted it installed toward the back of the cabinets to help maximize countertop space. The only issue that caused is that there was a shadow cast over the top 1/4 of anything on the holder. A quick little battery-operated under-cabinet light fixed that problem pretty easily.
To give you an idea of the size and sturdiness of the holder, I was able to put my 15.4" MacBook Pro laptop on it with no problems. If we had mounted it at the front of the cabinet, we could even use the laptop with the screen open! For now, we'll just have to stick to cookbooks, printed recipes, and the iPad. Also, per the other review that says this is too small for cookbooks, I find that it is not. It is able to hold my wife's largest cookbook, The Chocolate Bible: The Definitive Sourcebook, With Over 600 Illustrations. It's a snug fit, but it does fit!

Great product; not-so-great instructions if you needed them,

I have nothing but great things to say about this handy-dandy cookbook holder except for two things that I will elaborate upon later... The acrylic itself is just under 1/2" thick and feels pretty substantial. The hinges also feel substantial, move smoothly, and appear to be zinc- or nickel-plated(?) to prevent them from oxidizing. All-in-all it performs the job well.
However, the acrylic holder itself is constructed from two pieces that are fused together and make the seam where they meet pretty evident. It would have been nice if the acrylic was cast in a molded form rather than cut from a flat sheet. I don't think the cost of the item is merited for the construction method used, but this particular model is one of the least expensive I could find that wasn't totally terrible-looking. My only other beef with this is the instruction pamphlet and template. It's supposed to help you drill the holes under your cabinet without having to actually hold the cookbook holder while marking the holes, but (ha ha ha) when the instructions were printed out, the size of the template was no longer 1:1 with the cookbook holder and therefore becomes unusable... so you still have to resort to holding the cookbook holder while marking the holes (oh well!) Hope that helps!

This is a very good idea. But if you have undercabinet lighting, the holder is too big. Both will not fit.
I had to return because of this. But the item was sturdy and very well built.

I've wanted an under counter cookbook holder for a long time & when our kitchen remodel was finished I went searching. I chose this one over the other choices because it is acrylic & would blend with the color I chose for my cabinets. I ignored negative reviews & I'm very glad I did. It's sturdy & nicely constructed, & more importantly, so does my husband who installed it. He found the installation easy & it was operational quickly. I have a wide variety of cookbooks in various sizes & every one fits. I really enjoy having this holder & very glad I chose this one.
