Exciting suspense!,
This review is from: Under the Cajun Moon (Paperback)
I have read Mindy's last two novels, 'Whispers on the Bayou' and 'Shadows of Lancaster County' and thought they were very good. This one, however, is absolutely wonderful! The action is nonstop from the very first sentence. Clark is so descriptive of her characters and locations, I actually felt as if I were there with them. Though this is a Christian novel, it is not so overtly Christian as to turn off a nonbeliever. I thought the way she worked the spiritual aspect into the book was very good. As a devout believer, I appreciated that and also the fact that there are good, clean books out there for us who don't wish every other word to be a swear word.I won't describe the novel because I don't want to ruin it for those who haven't read it yet, but take my word for it: This is a superb book and you won't want to miss it.

intelligent amateur sleuth,
This review is from: Under the Cajun Moon (Paperback)
A daughter of a renowned New Orleans restaurant owner Chloe Ledet is ordered home when her dad Chef Julian is hospitalized following an accident. Julian asks Chloe to keep his business running, which she agrees to do as this is the first time in her life her father asked her to do anything except take out the garbage. However, she barely looks at a recipe or sets a table, when the police suspect her of murder. Chloe knows she is being set up with Cajun pizzazz by an unknown source. Not one to sit idly by and wait for a break, Chloe investigates the homicide with a former boyfriend at her side. To solve the murder, she must swim in bayous and dig through her spicy dysfunctional relationships with her famous parents. This is an intelligent amateur sleuth mystery starring a spicy peppery heroine who is only in town to help her ailing dad, but soon finds herself drowning in Ragin' Cajuns. The story line is fast-paced but totally owned by the spunky lead protagonist who knows what she must do in the restaurant and to clear her name, but not with the man who offers to help her. If you have not read Mindy Starns Clark's Million Dollar and Smart Chick mysteries, you are missing out on one of the better whodunit authors as she returns to the Bayou State for a great mystery. Not what I expected,
By M.O.A. (MD) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Under the Cajun Moon (Paperback)
I was surprised by all these positive reviews. In the beginning the book seemed fine, but the suspense dragged towards the middle and the romance was aggravating. Normally I would be able to overlook side stories for a good mystery, but it wasn't engaging enough for me. Also, I find character development very important in a novel, and it was definitely lacking in this book. Chloe, was an extremely flat character, and I didn't understand Travis's relationship with her at all. When I read the prequel, Whispers of the Bayou, the excellent mystery and winding plot compensated for flat characterization. I expected an equally riveting mystery in Under the Cajun Moon, but it didn't happen for me. In the end, I could not finish the book and had no wish to.

A Gripping Mystery!,

This review is from: Under the Cajun Moon (Paperback)
Murder, mayhem, mystery, kidnapping, snakes, alligators, hidden treasure, romance, God's grace -- you'll find all these and more in Mindy Starns Clark's Under the Cajun Moon!Chloe Ledet is an international business etiquette expert, living in Chicago. When she gets a call from her hometown of New Orleans that her father has been shot, she quickly flies there to be near him. Before she can get to the hospital, though, she finds herself at her father's famous French Quarter restaurant, hearing a story of family treasure and mystery. The next morning she wakes up in an unfamiliar hotel room and learns that she has been framed for murder. When Travis Naquin, the grandson of her father's sometimes partner/sometimes adversary appears on the scene and seems intent on helping Chloe, the quagmire of mystery and danger grows deeper. As the story unfolds through the lakes and bayous and marshes of south Louisiana, Chloe (as well as the reader) finds herself doubting the motives of almost everyone she knows. And one of the biggest questions she struggles with is whether she can trust God to know or care about where she is and what is happening to her. In the midst of the modern-day story, Mindy Starns Clark weaves an 18th-century tale that provides an intriguing backdrop to the setting. In her masterful style of storytelling, she takes you back and forth between centuries without ever breaking the flow. I would highly recommend this gripping mystery that you're sure to have trouble putting down.

I read Whispers of the Bayou and then Under the Cajun Moon both of which I loved. Anything in LA or cajun always intrigues me. I think Mindy does a great job of keeping the reader engrossed without being too descriptive. All I can really say is that I enjoyed both these books by her and intend on continuing to read her. Not sure how acuarate her books are but I also don't care. I just like a good read and in my opinion these fit the bill!

I am a 68 year old female and could count the number of fiction publications I have purchased or read over the years on one hand. I bought this book on sale at a local Christian book store because it looked interesting. Indeed it was. I kept it in my desk drawer at work and read it in record time on my breaks. I only put it down when I had to! I am in the process of reading another novel by the same author, Whispers on the Bayou'. They are easy reads when you need a "brain break" yet will hold your interest.
