Book Description

June 10, 2010
In Under Cape Cod Waters, award-winning photojournalist Ethan Daniels captures the mystery and importance of the often overlooked natural communities along the Cape Cod coast. The Capes near-shore waters are both diverse and productive, making these coastal ecosystems as dynamic and prodigious as any along the Atlantic shoreline. With the trained eye of a scientist and the sensibilities of an artist, Daniels photographs the amazing and resilient life forms that play such a vital role in maintaining the health and well being of this cherished peninsula. The result is a stunning portrait of a world only seen from the surface. In the hazy, dark waters, Daniels reveals the arresting orange of a sponge, the silvery flash of fish scales, the bright blue of a crab claw. With chapters on each of the Cape s aquatic ecosystems the salt marsh, bay, open ocean, and freshwater ponds Daniels at once enlightens and educates us about the treasures hidden amidst this mesmerizing seascape.

5.0 out of 5 stars Uncovered at last! June 7, 2010
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
As a life-long Cape Codder, it is thrilling to finally see what lies beneath our beautiful waters. I could never have imagined such images, and am very grateful to Ethan Daniels for revealing them. Those who love Cape Cod, those who love marine life, and those who just love great photography will all adore this book. Great for kids, to open up a whole new world for them, and equally stunning as a coffee table book for adults. I now live in Los Angeles, and am so happy to have this book to turn to when I'm homesick for the Cape (and to show to friends, who've never been there!)

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful marriage between science and art July 19, 2010
Format:Hardcover
One of the world's most gifted photojournalists, Ethan Daniels has created a landmark publication that fuses stunning, inimitable images of Cape Cod's unique marine and freshwater environments with rich, digestible text about their natural history and assorted ecological functions. Through the eyes of both a trained scientist and award-winning photographer, Mr. Daniels unveils to his readers the intimate connections and raw beauty of these aquatic systems that, for centuries, have captured the imaginations, hearts, and souls of both native Cape Codders and its myriad visitors. "Under Cape Cod Waters" provides a fresh, deep perspective of the "bared and bended arm of Massachusetts" that is sufficient enough to challenge students of biology yet palatable enough to enlighten and engage the non-scientist. With this, his most recent effort, Mr. Daniels has raised the bar for photojournalists reporting on the natural history of marine environments and established himself as one the premier artistic scientists of his generation.

The exceptional photography in this book expands our view of familiar scenes, giving them an almost dream-like quality. I have given copies to a number of friends, who have been equally struck by Ethan Daniels's vision as he takes us on unusual journey.
