Clumsy Lovers are my new best favorites,

This is a really fun album; great interpretations of cover songs that range from traditional folk-type stuff to Beatles to Skynyrd. High-energy, lots of banjo/violin. If you ever get to see these guys live, go. Just watching Andrea Lewis play the fiddle is worth the ticket price. She's like a cricket on speed!

I can not say enough about this band. I first saw them at Bumbershoot in Seattle, just walking by the stage and had to stop and since then I've been on a mission to convert everyone I know to fans. They play all over the country but do a lot of shows out west. if you can see them live, DO - they ROCK. Under the Covers is a great cover album. I think my favorite song is "I'm on Fire".

I've seen Clumsy Lovers live, and have recommended them to friends who have also loved their music. They really are "Raging Celtic Bluegrass Rock" ... :) Incredible musicians who really love what they're doing. Under the Covers is a great CD, all 'covers' of songs previously recorded by other artists. You'll be halfway through some of the songs before you realize why they sound familiar -- the Clumsy Lovers' interpretations are refreshing - breathing new life into songs, some of which are real 'standards' for their original artists (this CD features covers of a Bruce Springsteen song and a U2 song, among others) -- all of them unmistakeably reinterpreted with Clumsy Lovers' own brand of musical magic. And their version of "Single Girl" makes me want to get up and dance! Regardless of the genre of music to which you normally listen, whether it's country, rock, Celtic/new age .... I've yet to find someone who didn't love this music and CD.

This disc is the latest effort from the Clumsy Lovers, and I would have to say that it is every bit as polished and refined and well-played as any of their other CDs. The whole disc contains a "different" approach to songs that you probably already know. I have seen the band live a time or two, so I must include some of the other artists that they cover regularly. It is an eclectic mix ranging from Bob Marley to the Violent Femmes to Kenny Rogers to AC/DC to Bob Dylan. This disc makes wonderful driving music because it is so full of energy, and if you wanna sing along, you probably know the words. |
