Under Fire-A Joyfully Recommended Title!!!,
This review is from: Under Fire: The Firefighters of Station Five (Mass Market Paperback)
A firefighter for Station Five's A Shift, Zack Knight lives to save lives. His own life, however, is sadly lacking. Zack's father owes a huge gambling debt to a big time Atlantic City hotel mogul, and the fact that Zack's dad is comatose in a nursing home only means that the mogul is now coming after Zack. As a result, Zack has lost his home, his life savings, even his pride. He is working himself to the bone just trying to stay afloat - but he is sinking fast. While absently pondering his diminished finances and stagnant life, Zack accidentally rear ends Miss Cori Shannon, an exotic dancer. He does his best to help the stunning woman all the while knowing she would never go for a geek with a huge IQ like him. Especially a geek who can't even afford to take her out to dinner.
Though very upset that her car is rear ended, Cori Shannon has more serious problems. She feels the relentless weight of eyes following her, leaving her with the continuous feeling of being watched. After leaving the handsome but somewhat shy man standing in the rain, Cori continues on her way. When her tire blows out and she sharply turns the steering wheel, her SUV crashes though a guard rail only to stop and hang inches above the churning river. Terrified to move, Cori prays for help. Help arrives in the form of firefighter Zack Knight who promises her he will get her out of the SUV alive. At considerable risk to himself, Zack does just that. In Under Fire, Zack and Cori's relationship begins hot and the flame burns higher each time they are around each other. Cori's quick comebacks at the scene where she and Zack first meet made me smile. While Cori is sassy and independent, she isn't whiney. She knows what she needs to do with her life and her goals of being independent of her brothers and her dead husband's money are noteworthy. Zack made my heart swoon. I absolutely loved every single inch of this man. Though tender and empathetic, Zach is a strong character who has a deep sense of loyalty. More than once he puts himself in danger to keep Cori safe. And to be quite honest, if I say much more, I would have to give away the plot of Under Fire - and since I don't want to spoil the fun, I just can't do it. Scorching hot kisses, smoldering sex, and explosive passion make Under Fire a must read! Experience the flames of Under Fire! I joyfully recommend it! Talia Reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

Hapless hero,
By Katydid (Indianapolis, IN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Under Fire: The Firefighters of Station Five (Mass Market Paperback)
This is my second book by Jo Davis, and will be my last. I don't think this author knows how to write a hero who doesn't whine and/or get constantly beat up. I was looking forward to this book, Zack being a virginal hero, but that wasn't as satisfying as I expected, since he was completely down on his luck and always getting out of the hospital after nearly drowning, then shot, then beaten. He was on meds and nursing wounds most of the book. I ended up feeling sorry for him most of the time. That's not sexy.
Other people may love this book, but I didn't. I really wanted to, but instead I couldn't wait for it to end so Zack could get some peace.

In UNDER FIRE, Jo Davis takes us back to Station Five and the firefighters of Team A. This time our hero is Zack, the beta member of the group. But don't let his quiet demeanor and intellect fool you. Inside beats the passionate heart of a lover, and when he gets his woman, boy do those flames ignite! When Cori is in jeopardy, Zack's inner alpha male kicks into high gear to protect her, no matter the danger to himself.
Just like in TRIAL BY FIRE, Davis' first book in the series, UNDER FIRE delivers intense sensual encounters and some intriguing sexual scenes that will make you rethink the purpose of some rooms in your own house!

A little far-fetched from reality, but still good!,

I loved the first book in the series, Trial By Fire so I couldn't wait to start this one about Zack and Cori. Well, I think I can suspend reality with the best of everyone, but c'mon, there is only just so much suspension, if you know what I mean. I felt Zack was like a little weeble wobble, he kept getting pushed, but just wouldn't fall down. I'm sorry, it's just hard for me to believe someone could experience so many injuries (and a lot of them MAJOR) and get up and do the things Zack does (make love, repair a house and let's not forget - BUILD A BRIDGE, among other things) within in a couple of weeks. Then there was the ending, I wasn't a huge fan of why Zack decided he wasn't good enough for Cori. All it took was Cori to say one thing and Zack instantly changed his mind. I don't know, it just didn't gel with me. However, I really enjoyed visiting with all of the firefighters again (Howard & Kat, Tommy, Julian, Sean and Eve). Can't wait for all of their individual books.

RETURN TO THE MEN OF STATION 5,
By Buggy "SUNNIE Day reader" (British Columbia, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Under Fire: The Firefighters of Station Five (Mass Market Paperback)
Zack Knight loves to fight fires and save lives along with the other members of his `family' at Station Five yet outside the firehouse his private life has hit rock bottom. In trying to pay off his ailing fathers gambling debts he's managed to lose his house, his life savings and with this latest instalment he's also going to lose his baby, a 1967 silver Mustang. Its while pondering the loan sharks increasingly hostile demands that Zack rear ends Cori Shannon in what will become the first of many accidents he suffers throughout this book. The beautiful exotic dancer wants nothing to do with Zack or his crumpled Mustang and succeeds in destroying what's left of his pride before she leaves too.
With Zack's job on the line for being late A' shift's first call takes them to an MVA on Sugarland bridge, a car is teetering on the guard rail. precariously close to falling into the violent waters below, a car that contains one terrified and somewhat familiar exotic dancer. Zack makes it his personal mission to rescue Cori, climbing into the back and urging her forward to safety just as the car topples over the edge taking Zack with it. The opening of UNDER FIRE is super exciting and I can't remember ever reading a romance where the author actually kills the hero or heroine within the first few chapters. (Okay it was only for a few minutes but still) Jo Davis just loves to torture her men and by the end I truly felt sorry for Zack; he drowns, gets pneumonia, is shot, drugged, stabbed, tortured and hit in the head with a 2x4, it's exhausting. Throughout it all Zack maintains his nice guy persona and between hospital visits even manages to lose his virginity (I know sweet right, he was saving himself for the right girl) His `right girl' is very likable, feisty, and independent plus she made me laugh with her sassy comments. Cori`s also older than Zack and no virgin which was an interesting dynamic. Together they both have a ton of secrets and I kept waiting for the inevitable explosion of truths, particularly after Cori's crazed stalker entered the scene. This is a great read full of action, suspense and hard-bodied men and although the love scenes aren't as scorching hot as TRIAL BY FIRE Zack makes up for it in sweetness, solo shower scenes and role playing games, yeah he's a keeper. Thankfully there are still several hot team members waiting to have their stories told, HIDDEN FIRE is the next instalment.

gotta love those firefighters,
By Liz "Liz" (Oregon) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Under Fire: The Firefighters of Station Five (Mass Market Paperback)
Zack Knight is a straight laced nice guy. Loves his job and everyone loves him. He's also a virgin. He wants so badly to find the right woman to be with and give her all of himself. He's a true romantic hero. Not quite the typical alpha male we read about, but still very Heroic. Its written in such a way that he doesn't come off like a total wuss. Life has hit him hard and he is at rock bottom trying to pay off insurmountable gambling debts for his invalid father....and so the drama ensues.
Cori is fairly new in town and earning money doing exotic dance gigs to pay her way through nursing school. She has her own demons as well. She's got danger on her tail as well and secrets she is too scared to reveal, especially to the man who she is falling in love with, Zack. First the fender-bender and then later he rescues her from a car accident. They both fall hard for each other but there is so much secrecy and danger surrounding them that they have to really over come a lot of things in order to really understand where their relationship can go. There are also unexpected and surprising connections they realize they have. But, as usual, Love overcomes! So, I love these guys. As in the first book, the author does a great job keeping us abreast on the lives of the other members of Station 5 so we continue to salivate for their upcoming stories. The reason I only gave it 4 stars is because I really got tired of having to read about Zack getting injured, beat, shot, drowning, etc. One thing after another happened to this poor guy!! Really?! On top of the horrible stress of his financial situation?... How much can one human being really take?! That was tough. But other than that, Love these firefighters!! Great lovable men who love their women....when they find them and finally give in to love. Can't wait for the rest of the series to come out!!

Now I'll go back and read the first,
By Casey "CC2112" (Maryland) - See all my reviews

I picked this up on a whim, never heard of this author. I liked it very much, read it in two days. Zack is a fresh approach in that he wasn't like some other heros, with tons of money and life so easy. Zach can't seem to get a break, which is why the ending was so satisfying to me. I thought the romance was very sweet and the vunerability of Zack showed. I will go back and read the first in the series, but was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it.

Something a bit different,
This review is from: Under Fire: The Firefighters of Station Five (Mass Market Paperback)
While it's true that the hero isn't like most we read about, that was actually one of the things I liked about this book. He had a sensitivity about him that was a nice change from the usual alpha male leads, but he was still definitely hero material.
I love the play between the men (and woman) of the station house. While you can definitely read this book as a stand alone, I recommend the first book in the series, and am looking forward to the next one as well!

I LOVE the firefighters of Station 5,

This review is from: Under Fire: The Firefighters of Station Five (Mass Market Paperback)
Zack Knight just ran into the most intriguing long-legged goddess. Too bad his mustang crumbled her back bumper. Cori Shannon is a sharp-tongued, mildly pissed-off exotic dancer who happens to have someone gunning for her. Her brassy, make-it-on-my-own plans and forward-thinking attitude are matched against our quiet, High IQ, Firefighter hero. And...he's a virgin.
When Zack and the other `Firefighters of Station Five' rescue Cori from near death, she suddenly becomes the one mending hearts instead of breaking. She nurses Zack back to health when another bullet gets too close. Sexual tension and a romance doomed to failure kept this reader deep inside the book until the end. Even if someone has not read her first in the series, she has layered just enough description to give the reader a taste of another of the hot heroes of Station House Five.

Zach Knight is a firer fighter and he is being hassled by loan sharks. His father has had a debilitating heart attack and has accrued a gambling debt. Now the sharks are after Zach to pay it off or they are going to kill his dad and him. Zach has a million things on his mind; he has lost his home and he is now taking double shifts. His mind is so out of it, he accidentally hits anther car on his way to work. The woman's car he hits turns out to be an exotic dancer named Corrine Shannon. She is sexy, mouthy and completely Zach's type. Corrine and Zach have a chemistry that burns up the sheets. As it turns out Corrine is in need of a man around to protect her. She has a stalker that is upping his game. Can two souls that are in trouble find love together before the trouble in their lives kills them both?
Under Fire is part of the Firefighters of Station Five series by Jo Davis. Corrine is a tough street smart woman with many secrets. She is beautiful both inside and out. Zach is a virgin waiting for the right woman to give himself too. I found this concept to be both lovable and refreshing. He is a gentle firefighter with a heart of gold. His father has never been close to him but he will not throw him to the wolves as he is a better man. These two together are the perfect combination of lust, love and true friendship. When you want a story that is super hot, super sexy and the perfect romantic read, Under Fire is the book for you. |
