5.0 out of 5 stars Exploring Fun!
My children, ages 3 and 4, love exploring the underground with the book's magic flashlight. They enjoy reading together and exploring on their own. This is by far the best First Discovery book series.

3.0 out of 5 stars I have a slightly earlier edition
This series is a rip-off of the Eyewitness format for younger readers. It is most appropriate for ages 2-5.

This book suffers from its French origins. Hedgehogs don't mean much to American children, and the desert has camels in it, etc.

It also doesn't stay focused. It strays off into bees, snails, ducks, herons, and butterflies, accidentally implying that they live or their eggs live in the ground.

This book, like most in the series, isn't coherent, focused, or logical. It has fewer outright errors than the others and is pretty to look at, so I am still giving it three stars. Its value as a piece of nonfiction is limited, however.
