Bloody Jack Adventures August 1, 2005
A pirate at heart, unlikely heroine Jacky Faber returns to the sea in a truly swashbuckling tale filled with good humor, wit, and courage.

After leaving the Lawson Peabody School for Young Girls in Boston--under dire circumstances, of course--she boards a whaling ship bound for London, where she hopes to find her beloved Jaimy. But things don't go as planned, and soon Jacky is off on a wild misadventure at sea. She thwarts the lecherous advances of a crazy captain, rallies the sailors to her side, and ultimately gains command of a ship in His Majesty's Royal Navy. But Jacky's adventures don't end there. . . .

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 7 Up–Leaving Boston behind her, Jacky Faber, 15, is on the run again. In this third installment in the series, the orphan girl from the streets of London returns to her native land in search of her true love, James Jaimy Fletcher. But Jacky's free and easy spirit can never stay away from trouble, and she finds herself onboard a royal naval ship once again, but it is a ship that is filled with a mutinous crew and an incompetent captain. Jacky has to use her wits to keep out of the captain's lecherous hands, and in good standing with her mates. In a surprising turn of events, the resourceful teen finds herself in charge of the crew and is surprisingly good at it. But how long will it last? Meyer thrills readers once again with the protagonist's misadventures. Neither the series nor Jacky show any signs of slowing down as this exciting tale barrels along with more adventures, romance, piracy, and the return of some familiar faces. Jacky is a wonderful character, full of high spirits, brains, and heart. This novel and its two prequels are highly recommended for fans of historical fiction and pirates.–Anna M. From Booklist

Gr. 7-10. Not for the squeamish or fainthearted, this sequel to Bloody Jack (2002) andCurse of the Blue Tattoo (2004) follows 15-year-old Jacky Faber as she steps off a whaler at Gravesend in 1804 and sets out for London in search of her beloved Jaimy. When the happy reunion she has planned is aborted by a misunderstanding, Jacky takes to the streets in boy's clothing, only to be abducted by a press-gang, sent to sea aboard a British warship, and nearly raped by its captain. The tables turn when she takes control of the ship and has new adventures on the high seas. After finding (and losing) her true love once again, Jacky sets sail for Boston, where her adventures can be expected to continue. Readers will root for resilient Jacky and her memorable friends as she cannily makes the best of even the least-promising situations. A swashbuckling saga with a decidedly unconventional heroine. 5.0 out of 5 stars The third of the Jacky Faber series, and the BEST one yet..., July 15, 2005
This review is from: Under the Jolly Roger: Being an Account of the Further Nautical Adventures of Jacky Faber (Bloody Jack Adventures) (Hardcover)
This is the third book in Louis A. Meyer's "Bloody Jack" books -- and each one gets better than the last. I HIGHLY recommend reading these books in order -- starting with "Bloody Jack: Being an Account of the Curious Adventures of Mary 'Jacky' Faber, Ship's Boy," and then on to "Curse of the Blue Tattoo: Being an Account of the Misadventures of Jacky Faber, Midshipman and Fine Lady."

Then you'll be ready for the best one yet -- the latest one called "Under the Jolly Roger : Being an Account of the Further Nautical Adventures of Jacky Faber." Like the other books by Meyer, this one is extremely well-written, VERY fast-paced and NEVER boring.

Make no mistake: Although high school girls love this series, and the main character is a teen-age girl (nicknamed "Bloody Jack" for one of her more violent adventures), this is not a series that's "just for girls." It features a heavy dose of nasty pirates, sword fights and violent warfare. Not your typical "girly" fare.

I won't spoil the plot -- you can learn more in the book's description above. Suffice it to say, it's an INCREDIBLE read. In fact, I've never finished a book as quickly as I did this one. "Under the Jolly Roger" isn't a short book, but I still wished it had gone on even longer. Fortunately, I get the feeling that Meyer has at least one more Bloody Jack book in him.

God bless 'im.

This review is from: Under the Jolly Roger: Being an Account of the Further Nautical Adventures of Jacky Faber (Bloody Jack Adventures) (Hardcover)
This was a great installment of Bloody Jack Adventures. I'm sure there is going to be a 4 book or Mr. Meyer's readers (including myself) are going to be very upset. I can't wait until the next book comes out. Like the first two book in the series many adventures come to Jacky. I read it in just one day and wanted to continue to keep on reading when it ended. Once again Mr. Meyer brings together a wonderful book.

I say if you liked the first two you are going to love this book!

*side note* Do you notice that with every book they keep getting longer? I'm not complaining, in fact I love that. But I just thought I would throw that in. :)

Wow! Meyer's has done it again bringing Jacky back to sea and back into our lives in this third book of the series. The Curse of the Blue Tattoo (2nd book) left readers wanting more, as does Under the Jolly Roger. Another action-packed book that has a very interesting plot and that is very easy to follow for any age level. I particularly believe that this book would be perfect for any middle school or high school student that is looking to add some excitement in their life.
I can't wait until the 4th book comes out and either will you after you read this one! Buy a copy today- You'll love it!
