Truly A Page Turner...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Under the Lake (Mass Market Paperback)
I must say it was a page turner... though the quote of Steven King saying it was scary as hell I don't agree with. It was scary... to a point and well written and you really couldn't put it down. But it wasn't on you can't read late at night. But don't let that put your hopes down! It is really one of the greatest books I've read! Its one of those books where the character doesn't know what has happened til the end. And the best part is that you are put in the characters position! Not one of those books where you know but they don't... You don't know either which really makes it a great book. Read it, like it, review it, read it again! This has really brought to my attention a new author to read.

This was a great book!,

This review is from: Under the Lake (Mass Market Paperback)
Wow! Wow! Wow! I've read several of Stuart Woods' novels before, all from the Stone Barrington series. I've enjoyed all of those so much, I wasn't sure I'd like something other than a Stone B. story. What an amazing surprise this was. I haven't been so engrossed in a story in ages. At times, I had to force myself to put this book down. The characters were engaging and the intertwined plots were quite simply mesmerizing. Once you start reading, you'll be hooked straight through to the unexpected ending. Stuart Woods is an expert storyteller.

Terrific Southern Gothic!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Under the Lake (Hardcover)
Stuart Woods captures the essence of the Southern Gothic in thisthriller. Based on the true story of a Northeast Georgia town purchased by a large power company and covered with an upscale lake community, Woods spins mystery, romance, and terror into this tale. It is a fast-moving and entertaining treat!

This is one of the best books I have ever read. The ending willturn you upside down. Books don't normally scare me, but I have neverbeen more nervous to turn the lights out when I read this book.

Spooky-But Terrific as Usual,
By Donna Wilkinson (Memphis, TN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Under the Lake (Mass Market Paperback)
I bought this as an audio cassette to listen to while driving on a long trip. Kept me totally enthralled and awake. Even my husband, who hates these kinds of books, got caught up in it. It is a must read for Stuart Woods fans. It is very different than most of his more glitzy novels but I loved it!

Best Book I've Ever Read,
By A Customer
This review is from: Under the Lake (Mass Market Paperback)
I just finished the book five minutes ago. It combines mystery and horror into one of the scariest and most suspenseful books I've ever read. There are all sorts of unanticipated plot turns that surprised the hell out of me. Tfe most fascinating thing about the book is that the author, Stuart Woods, managed to put closure on all the sub-plots the book explored. It's a superb piece of literature.

Excellent spooky mystery!,

This was another great novel by Stuart Woods. I started out listening to the Stone Barrington novels on disc and finished them all with enjoyment. Then I started on Woods' other novels and was delighted to find they're excellent...every one of them has been a wonderful ride. This particular novel is quite good with well-developed characters and great settings. From an interview with Woods, the novel was developed from a friend's true experience with a seance...that gives you an idea of the type of story this involves. Excellent...I'd recommend it...a mixture of mystery and Stephen King thriller. You'll love it!

Marvelous Book,
By Ricky N. "Ricky C. Nelson" (Commerce, GA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Under the Lake (Mass Market Paperback)
I first read "Under the Lake" 12 years ago. It is by far my favorite Stuart Woods book, and I rate it up there in my Top 5 books of all that I've ever read. This book is part mystery, part ghost story, part legend, part romance, and part history. Each of these aspects is perfectly written to make this an excellent book. To give away any of the plot would be an injustice to anyone who hasn't read this book. I know that I will never think of Lake Burton in Georgia the same way again.

Under the Lake lacks imagination,
This review is from: Under the Lake (Mass Market Paperback)
I recently finished Under the Lake by Stuart Woods. I was so disappointed. I knew that this is one of his older books, so I am willing to give him some leeway...but oh my...what a disappointment. The story line was somewhat interesting, but he characters were so unbelievable. Running from a drug dealing crooked cop and you take a nap??? Seeing ghosts in your house and you aren't even concerned??? Every woman you meet ends in a sexual conquest??? Researching a possible mass murder, complete with incest and dirty cops and you are torn by your responsibility to write about a Chicken Franchise owner??? Please...was this a mystery or a comedy. I recently bought three other books by Stuart Woods but I'm afraid to even start them.
