Book Description

Be careful what you wish for...

From the time she was a teenager, Beth Hudson only ever wanted two things out of life--to become a journalist for the newspaper her family owned, and to be with Ethan Moore. With the first goal marked off her list, she has no idea how to go about achieving the second, especially since Ethan himself seems determined to stand in her way. As the distance between Beth and Ethan grows, a mysterious, handsome stranger arrives in town, his presence only adding to Beth’s confusion.

When strange nighttime lights and Satanic altars start appearing across the rural Indiana county Beth calls home, she is distracted from her heartache over Ethan’s uncaring attitude. Frustrated by the lack of concern from local law enforcement and resolved to find answers, Beth launches her own investigation. What she uncovers is much more than what she bargained for.

Unsure of who to trust, Beth continues looking into the odd occurrences. As she closes in on the truth, it becomes apparent her persistence is pushing someone’s buttons in a big way. Refusing to give up before the truth is revealed, Beth’s determination to get answers could end up costing her everything--even her life.

"Under the Moon's Shadow" is the second book in the Shadows Collection, a series of novels set in small-town Indiana. Other titles include "Secrets in the Shadows," “Shadows from the Grave," "Hidden in the Shadows," "In the Heart's Shadow," and "Deception in the Shadows."

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Romantic Suspense November 27, 2010
Format:Paperback
This was my first experience reading a romance with a suspenseful theme, so I was pretty apprehensive when I started to read it. The blurb describing the book was very intriguing and was the key factor in my final decision. By the end of the story, I was a firm believer in the power of a well-written blurb because I would have totally missed reading something that thrilled me with its action and moved me with the depth of emotion found in its characters and the journey of a couple that had to go through the pain of separation and betrayal only to find themselves come a full circle.

The author did an incredible job in writing a story that held me firmly in its grip. I loved the pacing of the book because it gave me the opportunity to enjoy what I was reading and the time to picture in my mind everything that was happening. What I especially appreciated was the way she put the story together because it felt as though it was two books in one.

The first part had me following Beth, the lead reporter of her small town paper as she tried to uncover the truth behind a series of disappearances and discovery of ritualistic altars. It placed me straight in the middle of conflict and as the story progressed and tension built, I was totally hooked on knowing who was behind it all. The implication that Ethan, the potential love interest for Beth, was involved lead to some interesting scenes and I loved the excitement it had me feeling.

The second part of the book was what really touched my heart and moved me at one point to tears. Without giving too much away, it tells of Beth's journey to recover from the trauma of earlier events and her struggle to repair the damage to her spirit.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected... May 23, 2012
By K.D.
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
First off, I think this book has a lot going for it. I really enjoy a good suspense, romance...and this one seemed to fall a little short. It's like this...imagine yourself at a firework show. The first ten minutes are good, then it seems as if the finale is coming. BOOM BOOM BOOM...lots of excitement and you're loving it, but you know there's a while before the show's going to end. Then the fireworks dwindle down to just one piddly firework at a time. After another ten minutes there's one last firework that's slightly louder than the rest and...it's over.

First, the good...I liked the basic story of Beth as a journalist for a small-town paper with the strange going-on's. The tense relationship between her and Ethan was intriguing, and I loved the family dynamic within Beth's family. I appreciate that it was a pretty "clean" novel, not just with the serial killer, but also in the romance. Everything was spelled out, but not in the raunchy detail I've found in other novels (and it could have been considering the killer's tactics). And the author did well to draw me into the story, but...

The bad...I think the author may have lost their way while writing this one. Looking at the book as a whole, there wasn't a good balance of suspense and the love story. After the first half of the story the suspense (at least for me) all but vanished. The author did well to build up an interesting villain with an intriguing motivation, and I was really excited to see how that part of the story would develop. Instead, the villain was dropped from the story and it turns into Beth's emotional journey to find herself again, with a mini-villain of sorts sprinkled in. I wish the novel description would have made reference to Beth's recovery being such a big part of the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark Moon. October 20, 2010
Format:Paperback
Under The Moon's Shadow is the Empire Strikes Back of second novels. Darker, grittier and more disturbing than Secrets In The Shadows. If the first twenty pages don't have you hooked you're not a mystery lover. I could go on but I don't want to ruin anything for the reader, you need to experiance this great story on your own. The ending will kick you in your...well wherever. T.L.Haddix does it again and I can't wait for the third book. I like it dark.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes Yes Yes October 10, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
Under The Moon's Shadow by T.L. Haddix, Book Two in the Leroy's Sins series....ohhh, it was just what I had hoped it would be. After the first book, I looked so forward to the second, and it did not disappoint! I flowed right through it, not able to stop reading, and now I cannot wait for Book Three. You get to know the people of Leroy. They become your friends, your neighbors. Heck, you feel like you live in Leroy! I think this series is going to take off and become very popular! Well done, T.L.

3.0 out of 5 stars Romance or mystery/thriller August 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I wasn't really sure is this was a romance or a mystery/thriller at first. It seemed to go back and forth without real connection. Eventually it started to come together, though, and after a lot of soul-searching by the main characters, it brought together the disparate parts satisfactorily.

3.0 out of 5 stars It was ok January 6, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The story line was good but just once I wish I could read a book that all the characters aren't perfect. Beth is beautiful, her brothers are attractive, the family is wealthy, blah blah, blah. You know, the same old thing. It was kind of predictable to know who the bad guys were in the story so there wasn't much of a surprise twist but overall it was an OK read. I did find the ending to be good, a great way to lead off to the next book. There were several grammatical errors as well. I don't intend to read the other books unless they are free.

More About the Author

T.L. Haddix was born in Hazard, Kentucky, a small town in the center of the Appalachian coal fields. Taught to read by her grandmother, T.L. has had a life-long love affair with books, devouring whatever she could get her hands on. From childhood favorites such as the Trixie Belden series and Laura Ingalls Wilder's "Little House" books, to her current favorites from authors like Tami Hoag, Alex Kava, J.A. Jance and Lisa Kleypas (among many others), T.L. still finds refuge in the written word.

"Growing up, I wanted to be everything - astronaut, police officer, doctor, teacher, reporter, psychologist - there was no clear choice for me. I wanted to do it all. Becoming a writer has allowed me to do just that, because I can live vicariously through my characters."

A resident of southern Indiana, T.L. is hard at work on her next book, when she isn't chasing after her three cat-children with her husband.
