5.0 out of 5 stars Megan Follows shines as Rosie
All too often Canadian movies get left in the dust. They are usually hard to get and don't usually receive the credit they so deserve. This movie, UNDER THE PIANO, featured Megan Follows (an actor who has turned out brilliant performances since she was a child) and Amanda Plumber (yes Christopher's daughter) who is equally as wonderful. 1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed!
I was excited to find this movie, as our family has thoroughly enjoyed Megan Follows in the Anne of Green Gables movie series for years. She did a wonderful acting job in this movie, but the overall tone was very depressing and dark. By the end of the movie we were left feeling that we could not recommend watching it to our friends because we would not want to leave them...

This was a thought provoking and often-times difficult to watch movie and a movie that dealt with the human condition. Movies like this tend to get looked over for the Hollywood movies but do deserve our attention.

There is so much talent in Canada and Amazon has the means to promote it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Low keyed and deeply saddening, May 14, 2008

Any opera person will buy this neglected film for Teresa Stratas in a speaking role, and she does not disappoint. Where Stratas had a huge career, her character in the film is a never-was prima donna turned captious voice teacher and utterly failed mother whose rigidity drives one child away and another--a deeply autistic daughter--to attempt suicide. It is not a fun topic and it is not a fun movie, but a sad portrait of a family that cannot quite assemble itself to support its weakest OR its strongest links. Amanda Plummer is quite fine as the elder daughter, and Megan Follows is scarily real as the autistic girl. Hard to say "wonderful" about a film as sad as this, but there it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, September 7, 2009
This review is from: Under the Piano (DVD)
I have had this movie on VHS for many years and was happy to see it released to DVD. Megan Follows of Anne of Green Gables fame does an excellent job in this moving story of survival, love vs. hate, strength, and shattered dreams. A pretty heavy story, this movie (I feel) is a great time piece that captures a moment in the past very well with the set, costumes, cars etc. My favorite scene is when Megan Follows is riding the food cart at her job - a moment of true bliss for this troubled soul. Great movie. I can watch it again and again.

I was excited to find this movie, as our family has thoroughly enjoyed Megan Follows in the Anne of Green Gables movie series for years. She did a wonderful acting job in this movie, but the overall tone was very depressing and dark. By the end of the movie we were left feeling that we could not recommend watching it to our friends because we would not want to leave them also feeling depressed. The devotion and loyalty of the sister was commendable, but the sacrifice of her own marriage and family in the process was very disappointing. On a positive note, Megan's character, with her sister's encouragement, was able to lead a happy and productive life, and this could inspire others in this situation. Megan Follow's portrayal of someone dealing with autism was realistic, however, as the overall tone of hopelessness left a feeling of depression that was difficult to shake, I cannot recommend this movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful glimpse into a sad but very real subject, December 31, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Under the Piano (DVD)
I know this movie ( based on a true story) can be seen as dark- but I believe it also is a movie about hope and strength and the depth of a sister's love. Megan Follows, Amanda Plummer and Teresa Stratas give such heart wrenching performances in this movie. I believe it shows what true love and devotion is... it is dark because truth is sometimes dark, but to believe in someone when even their own mother doesn't sends a message for us all- if you are a person who gets depressed by watching a movie based on such a deep subject- this movie probably is not for you- but for those who can go through the journey "Under the Piano" teaches some valuable lessons...
