great!!!!,
This review is from: Under Pressure (Audio CD)
this cd is incredible. it feature's 8 originals and 2 covers (Bad Luck City, R.L....I got the Blues, Albert King). I was quite impressed on Duwaynes writing ability and his incredible guitar licks never cease to amze me....The more i listen to it, the more i hear an extreme Hendrix influence...its great.A couple notable songs: Tribute...i'm guessing this is a song for his father and maybe Jr. Kimbrough its quite heart felt. Also "King" for those who have studied the NMAS setlists from a couple summers ago, you will more than likely find this song. the first line "I be so high, i don't even know my name." The title track is a great way to start off the CD. and for those of you who own "live at the mint" the last song "Hard Candy" is reincarnated on this album as "Hard Candy Part II"..a great guitar instrumental... I have heard Luther, Cody and Chris were in the studio with Duwayne to record a few songs for this album. My best guess, being that it doesn't note which ones, would be the last 4 songs: Bad Luck City, King, I got the Blues, Hard Candy Part II. The bass playing and drumming styles are a little different that the first 6 songs. hope this was helpful.....

Album of the year,
This review is from: Under Pressure (Audio CD)
For an avid music fan of all types of music. This was a real treat. I had the good fortune by chance of catching Duwayne Burnside live in Charlotte NC before I ever heard of him. I have since bought all his CD's. I can't get enough.

Duwayne Burnside is a first rate guitarist and a mediocre singer. I have seen him in person and loved his show. However, he does not translate well when recorded. By all means, go see him live but otherwise, Under Pressure is for fans only.

I bought this CD and another by Dwayne Burnside based on the reviews I read about it. They were wrong! The reviews said that Dwayne was a good but not great singer. They also said he was an excellent guitar player. He cannot sing at all and he is only a minimally good player. I wasted my money on this CD.

This album is an excellent display of the unforgetable guitar prowess and sweet vocal tones of Duwayne Burnside. I am not sure, however, that this album was very well thought-out. It sounds thrown together. The guitar is rambling at 180 mph while Duwayne is singing slow and down low on Gotta' Pretty Woman. THe drums track sounds like it was put down in another state, aside from lacking dynamics. The bass playing (Gary, is that you?) is excellent, and perhaps the most tastefully done part of the album. But this album is a clearly a slopped-together excuse to exhibit Duwayne's talent. Sloppin' together worked for the Sound Machine because . . . I don't know why. It just worked with R.L.'s style. But it doesn't work for the Texas style. Next time Duwayne listens to Albert King, he should listen to the band and the mix--like on Live Wire/Blues Power. They get that right, then they're right.
