I've used this tool for a couple of years now and can't imagine hanging artwork without it. Works with any kind of picture hanging hardware and marks on the wall exactly where to put the nail to get it in the right spot.

I almost didn't buy this at Home Depot because it looks and feels like junk instead of an effective tool. However, I knew I would have some stuff to return there anyway so I decided to give it a whirl. It took me a couple of times to figure out how to use it effectively (the instructions are not very helpful). However, once I figured it out, I flew through all the stuff I had to hang. No joke, I am guessing what would have normally taken me 6 hours to hang took a little over an hour.

I have quite a few "collections" of pieces - things that go in a row of 3, a column of 4 or a 2 x 2 square, etc. Those things are an incredible pain to hang with equal spacing in between - levels, pencils, tape measures, marks on the wall, extra holes, patch/paint, and a math headache on top of it! But this little inexpensive plastic tool got rid of all that.

Having said that, it's only as good as you are at using it. It's an "eyeball" tool. Several things I learned:

- For a row, start with the middle piece and work outward
- For a column or a 2 x 2 and like arrangements, start with the bottom piece(s) and work up.
- Make sure to pay attention to the level at the top of the tool as you make micro adjustments. If you mark the spot for the nail and it's not level, gravity will pull it out of alignment.

What it's good for:

- Lighter pieces
- Pieces with a singular point of attachment like a wire in back, single hook or sawtooth clip
- Arrangements of multiple pieces

What it's not good for:

- Heavy pieces
- Pieces with two points of attachment - like having a keyhole mount on the outer edges. I suppose it could work if you had two of the tools and extra hands to help.

I was completely and pleasantly surprised. And definitely keeping it!

I really do. I want to love this item. But I can't. It just hasn't been useful for most of the frames I've tried. It doesn't work with all frames, and won't get close to the ceiling (I was doing a gallery style wall and needed the frames 3" or so from the crown molding). I had a couple frames with double keyhole style hooks that were too small for this to fit into. I also think felt feet on the back would have been better than the silicone ones, to help it glide better when you have a frame hanging on it. It just stuck to my walls when I tried to move a frame for placement. It also limits you to using nails only to hang, it doesn't really work with picture hooks. It really is an innovative design and did work well for a couple smaller frames though, so I'm holding on to it. So, it gets and A for effort and innovation but for my own uses it didn't work out. It isn't expensive, so it is worth the money and is well made. The levels are accurate and easy to read. Definitely one for the toolbox, but is not without its limitations.

This is a good tool for hanging anything that has a wire behind it. It helps to judge how things will hang given the slack in the wire.

I don't use this for things that have a fixed hanging point.

This tool has worked great for me; I wanted to put together a grouping of picture frames in the nursery, and they all had wire hangers on the back. The built in levels and grip make it much easier to work with the pictures. I was able to visualize the placement much more easily and get the spacing just right. I also used it to hang a much larger picture with the double hook feature, and I was initially concerned that the tool would snap like a twig, but it performed admirably.

Ive used this product about 75 times, it works great. It's a little tough to use if the pic is really heavy. I hang all of my pic with this. The guy who called it "junk" is clueless.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a real Amazon shopper, but I got this at Home Depot last night for $11.99.
It works best when you need a NAIL in the wall, not one of those picture hooks where the hanging loop is lower than the nail hole.

Picture hanging used to be a time-consuming and complicated job, but this tool makes it quick and easy! Being able to mark exactly where the nail goes lets you hang multiple pictures that are perfectly aligned. Using the "two button" system let's you use two nails to hang a larger piece instead of one, which has the added benefit of keeping the picture straighter for longer. I've also bought 2 for "house warming" gifts for friends that have moved into new houses and they LOVED it.
