Painfully inaccurate...., June 20, 2008
Grace Gardner is a nurse who falls in love with a patient, Parker Kilpatrick. He is attracted to Grace, but resists his feelings for her. Of course there is a crime in the past and a new one in the present. Grace is endangered throughout the book.
The glaring problems, however, almost made me abandon the book entirely. (1) Firstly, I'm a nurse and I know that nurses don't work in both the ER and ICU and rehab all at the same time, like Grace does in this book. Also, she seems to have entirely too much time to wander around the hospital. Nursing is hard work and, if you are a good one, you aren't off wandering the halls. (2) In addition to that, on one page they say they are in the hospital then on the next they say rehab. Obviously this wasn't well proofread by anyone. (3) The morgue is alternately called a morgue then a crypt. A morgue is a morgue - a place where bodies are stored before autopsy and/or transport to the funeral home. A crypt is a stone burial place - a final resting place for the dead. You don't need to be a nurse to understand that one. (4) Finally, after a shooting an officer says that one of the bullets left a shell casing lodged in a tree. This one anyone would spot - a shell casing is left on the ground, generally wherever a gun was discharged and bullets lodge in places after they miss the target - the writer should have stated that a bullet was lodged in the tree.
These inaccuracies made me audibly groan at times. A little bit of research would have solved all these problems.
The only reason I gave this book even 3 stars is because, though somewhat formulaic, there were enough twists and turns to keep me interested to the last page. Though I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone.
