A unique portrait of Arabia's lands, peoples, and culture,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Under the Spell of Arabia (Hardcover)
In the early 1970s the photographer and author Mathias Oppersdorff traveled to Saudi Arabia and the Middle East, hampered by his lack of Arabic language skills and the common Islamic attitude against photography and travel. Oppersdorff managed to gain unusual access to areas usually closed to Westerners despite these major barriers, and his photos provide a unique portrait of Arabia's lands, peoples, and culture. Under The Spell Of Arabia is very highly recommended for both Islamic art and Arabian history collections.
