Surprisingly good for a band that was well past their heyday,
By Glen Zimmerman "RealMenDriveFords" (Lindenwold, New Jersey) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Under the Streetlights (Audio CD)
Best known for the huge 1982 hit "Let It Whip" and other funky party grooves from the early 80s, the Dazz Band certainly was taking a chance by making an album in 1995. Despite some lineup changes and the fact that funk was very dated by 1995, The Dazz Band manages to create a pleasing hip-hop soul album that has a surprising robustness to it. Though not the band's signature style, this album definitely sounds more like a carefully planned project, rather than a bunch of has-beens trying desperately to stay in the game.
