Undercover Girl #1 Secrets,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Undercover Girl #1: Secrets (Paperback)
What do you think it would be like to be a spy, genius and an orphan? Jesse is just that. Jesse is about to explore the world outside of her C2 building and go on her first huge mission. Her partner is Liam. Liam doesn't care much about Jesse because she's only a "thumb sucker," in otherwords a kid. Jesse's mission is to save Jasmine Carrillo from being kidnapped. Along the way she encounters suspects, challenges, and at times she is confused. During the mission Jesse finds out information about her mysterious childhood past. Undercover Girl #1 Secrets made me wonder how it would be like if you were responsible for someone's life like Jesse was for Jasmine. Christine Harris did a wonderful job making the book interesting, adventurous, and exciting. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves adventure. Andrea V

Exciting New Series!,
By Kat K. Munro (Chicago, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Undercover Girl #1: Secrets (Paperback)
Jesse Sharpe, an orphan raised by a secret government agency to become a spy, is a very cool girl. She's got a bag full of spy gadgets, she's a kick-butt martial artist, and she's brilliantly smart. This book, the first in the series, introduces us to the prodigy and leaves quite an impression behind. The book was exciting and fun.
Who wouldn't want to get to know such an interesting girl better? This series is a literary equivalent of Alias for the preteen set. Every adventurous girl should give this book a chance.

My Book Review,

This review is from: Undercover Girl #1: Secrets (Paperback)
I read the book Secrets of the series Undercover Girl. It is by Christine Harris. One really cool thing about this book is that you never know who the real bad guy is. The author never really explained C2 either, so you keep wondering. I enjoyed reading this book. I pictured myself in a lot of the situations that Jesse Sharpe was in. I tried to think about how I would react to try to better understand the character Jesse Sharpe.
Director Granger sends Jesse Sharpe on a mission. She is to protect another twelve year old girl that is supposed to be kidnapped. Her assigned partner Liam thinks Jesse is just a kid, he is just mad because Jesse tagged him. Jesse has to trail suspects, position listening devices, and be ready to knock someone out all the time. Jesse goes on her mission. She meets Jasmine Carrillo and her father. She knows she has to protect Jasmine, but does Jasmine know that? Jesse finally feels like she has a friend, but Liam makes sure that Jesse knows it's not smart to become close to your mission. Jesse was spending the night at the Carrillo house. She waited until Jasmine fell asleep. Then she snuck into Mr. Carrillo's office. She looked at his e-mails and realized that Mr. Carrillo was planning to kidnap his own daughter. She was confused. All of a sudden strong arms wrapped around her tightly. Jesse was kidnapped. She had to get out. Jesse was wondering if Jasmine was okay. She realized that her captors were Mr. Carrillo and his maid Eva. Jesse comes to understand that she was their target. She escapes, but they come after her. Jesse had heard them talking earlier. They were saying that Cybernetics, implanting chips into your skin, is the way of the future. Jesse found the system that controlled Cybernetics. She messed up the system and left the two captors wandering in circles clueless. Jesse continued crawling through the ventilation system. She realized that she was in the dining room of the Carrillo house. Jesse had escaped. Jesse Sharpe is a twelve year old orphan, a genius, and a secret agent. She is told that her parents were killed in a car accident when she was one. She was raised and trained to be a secret agent by the government agency C2. She was reading encyclopedias at the age of three, and has a remarkable memory. She speaks five languages and learned to play the clarinet in one day. She has a black belt in karate. She has just been assigned to protect a girl that is supposed to be kidnapped. Jesse Sharpe is just as confused as any other twelve year old kid would be if they had done everythi9ng she had done. She doesn't know who she can and can't trust. She doesn't know what has really happened to her in the past. She doesn't know how powerful the secret agency is. This book leaves you hanging a little bit. In the end, you aren't really sure what actually happened. You never really find out who the bad guy is. Jesse did put her life on the line to protect Jasmine Carrillo, and she erased the Cybervision people's memory. This book reminded me of the book series Kidnapped by Gordon Korman. Like Jesse Sharpe, Meg Falconer is tough, intelligent, and clever. They both don't let their feelings get in the way of completing their mission. Both of these books have a lot of mystery in them too. Both books never really end. When Meg got kidnapped instead of thinking "I'm going to die", she thought "How do I get out". Jesse reacted the same way when the Cybervision people kidnapped her. Both characters didn't give up. I enjoyed reading this book. I liked the mystery of the book. You don't know who the bad guy is! At the same time, I was a little confused the whole time. It was a little too much mystery. Other than the character Jesse Sharpe, nothing else in the book was really explained. I didn't really enjoy reading the end of the book. I thought it was going to all pull together in the end, but it never really did. I did like the conversation between Jesse and Liam at the end of the book though. I thought it was cool that he realized Jesse wasn't just a "thumb sucker". The vagueness makes the book unique. I have never read a book that has this much secrecy. I think the author could have explained about the secret agencies and supporting characters a little bit more. It would have made the book less puzzling. I would recommend this book to others. You just need to be in the mood to solve a puzzle.
