A Mystery With Style,
This review is from: Undercover in High Heels (Mass Market Paperback)
Undercover in High Heels is a very fun and humorous mystery. The plot is simple enough and the mystery was very obvious, but what really makes this book is the great characters.
Maddie is spunky, tenacious, and great fun. She certainly isn't qualified for the roll she assumes, which causes her to stumble through the mysteries and mostly solves them by being in the wrong place at the wrong time. However, this adds to the overall humor of the book. All the secondary characters are also great. Jack Ramirez is a sexy and realistic character who cares about Maddie, even if he isn't sure how to deal with her antics. Dana, Maddie's best friend, is a sex addict trying to get help for her addiction which adds for some funny situations and moments. We also get to see more into the Tabloid reporter, Felix. He is the mysterious character who Maddie isn't quite sure how to react to. Maddie thinks she dislikes Felix, but it seems more like she doesn't wish to accept that she does actually like him. I am waiting to see what happens between Felix and Maddie, as there is some tension between the two that hopefully will be explored in later novels. Overall this was a very enjoyable read and I am really liking this series. Granted, there are some incidents within this book that seems too convenient and sometimes not realistic, but the lightheartedness this book is going for seems to make it work. So if you are looking for a simple romantic-mystery with a delicious guy, then I highly recommend Undercover in High Heels for a nice lazy weekend.

Maddie Springer isn't a PI and she isn't an officer of the law either, but she acts like one. Trouble seems to follow her wherever she goes and, if it doesn't, she makes trouble for herself. In this book Maddie and her friend Dana find themselves on the set of 'Magnolia Lane', a hit television series. Murder and mayhem soon follow Maddie to the set and, despite the danger, she continues pursuing leads and people of interest. Her boyfriend, Jack Ramirez, is a detective with the local police but, of course, Maddie is the one to solve the crime. In order to figure out who is responsible for the on-set murders, Maddie enlists the help of several people, including her reporter friend from several earlier books, Felix. Her romance with Ramirez also goes to a new level in this book but, Maddie seems much better suited to Felix. The book is a combo of chick-lit and light mystery; a fun read but zero substance.

Kickin' mystery & romance....,

with a lot of comedy. Maddie and Ramirez still have a sizzling romance, or do they? Maddie is so insecure she starts checking up on Ramirez and gets him in a lot of trouble. She and Dana get jobs on a TV studio to try and help Ramirez with hilarious results.
There are two mystery storylines going on here. Maddie has a stalker, and at the same time she's investigating a murder on the set. These story lines cross and interact in interesting ways with each other. Maddie is still working on her children's shoe designs and is developing her own line. One of her shoe designs becomes an instant hit in an unusual way. I don't want to ruin the fun so you'll have to read it for yourself. If you like light comedic mysteries with a hot guy thrown in you'll love this third book in the series.

This is a good light book that is much like Laura Levine's style--funny and fast paced. This book makes you laugh and shake your head in light disbelief at the character's shenanigans. A good beach read--I've like all Gemma Halliday's books b/c they are consistent.

Soap operas have more drama off set than they do on set. When Maddie finds out that the main character on her favorite soap opera has been receiving life threatening letters she decides to take it upon herself to go undercover and figure it out. In order to do that she has to figure out a way to get on set. With her best friend she finds her way on set, but where ever Maddie goes murder follows, and soon there is a murder on set.
Maddie, her best friend, and her sexy cop boyfriend all find a way to be on the famous soap opera set to find out who the murder is. This novel is an amazing follow up mystery to her first one following the cute clumsy blond around who can't stay away from fast food. Of course read this mystery because they are addicting, really good, and they make you feel like you can do anything in a cute pair of heels. Insecurity over her relationship with hot cop Ramirez leads Maddie Springer to do something frankly stupid that results in him being demoted and angry with her. She is not so sure that the demotion is all that bad; after all, it lets him work as a bodyguard on the set of her favorite night time soap, Magnolia Lane. Hoping to help him as well see the stars, she gets a job as a wardrobe assistant there. Naturally, trouble soon begins. The female lead's stand-in is murdered, so naturally, Maddie feels like she just has to try and solve the case. Soon, she's getting grotesque death threats, finding herself in unusual positions, and generally re-inventing chaos as she goes. Jealousy surely has put Maddie in a mess this time!
**** Fast paced humor makes the story flow easily. Ramirez is an intriguing hero, which always makes things better. Though at times the mirth tends to override the murder angle, if you enjoy a good, screwball comedy with a hint of mystery, you'll like this. ****

Best of the series to date,
This review is from: Undercover In High Heels (High Heels Mysteries) (Kindle Edition)
"Undercover" is another fun little tale about hot mess Maddie, her obsession for shoes, and her tendency to land herself in danger. I was glad to see that this scenario was not quite as far-fetched as the last. Let's face it, it is still not rooted in reality, but then, that is kind of the point of fiction, right?Maddie is her typical self in this book; blowing off work, putting herself in danger to chase down a mystery without a basis in logic and reasoning, and doing the extreme over reaction thing (hello, first scene!). She is a bit of a train wreck; I just can't turn away, especially with Halliday's humorous writing style. I was glad to see a few of the usual characters evolve a bit in this one. I won't say which characters, because I don't want to spoil it. Buy the book and find out, already!

Finally an author that understand the love of shoes. I really like Maddie and Dana and their interaction. Reminds me of me and my BFF from high school. There are some real laugh out moments and dialog. They are silly, fun and absolutely adorable. I look forward to finishing the series.

Realistic, light suspense, with humor, romance, and relationship issues thrown in. Just enough "steaminess" to get your heart pitter-pattering, without graphic wording. Downloaded the first book as a freebie and got hooked! On the fourth book in the series now and the quality hasn't wavered. These are great books at reasonable prices, which seems to be unusual for quality electronic books. (Never have understood why electronic versions should be as expensive as hard copies. Hello!! Aren't we saving trees, ink, shipping, etc.? Apologies for the rant...) Love these books and love the prices...they are also lendable, which is a plus. Keep 'em coming Gemma!

Maddie and Ramirez...,
This review is from: Undercover In High Heels (High Heels Mysteries) (Kindle Edition)
Need to do the deed already!! I mean, I know they've "done it" but the author gets us to the point in the book where it's just about to happen and then doesn't describe it. I know this isn't a trashy romance novel but after she goes to such great length to build up the sexual tension between Maddie and Ramirez, it would be nice if we could get just a bit of sexy time. But that's just me...maybe I'm reading the wrong books. ;- Seriously though, this book int he 3rd in the High Heel series and so far, aside from the gripe I already mentioned, I'm really enjoying them. Quick, easy reads. Fun and entertaining.
