Under Covers is Trixter's third and final release before Alternative music forced the band into early retirement in the mid 1990s. While their self-titled debut album received some commercial success, and "Hear!" has often been praised as the best of their three albums, Under Covers left nary a mark as it came and went in late 1994.

The album itself has some worthy moments, but certainly not without a few flaws as well. The cover of Supertramp's "Take the Long Way Home" is incredibly well done and the highlight of the album. "Dirty Deeds", "Revolution", and the live version of "Fight For Your Right" (in which the band does the ol' switcheroo) are solid inclusions also. However, the dual versions of "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" quickly become boring and repetitious, especially when you consider that there are only 8 tracks on this disc to begin with. A different cover as an 8th song, and perhaps 1 or 2 more to round it to an even 10, would have done wonders towards making this a more respectable release. Still, it's an enjoyable album for what it is, and one I go back to often when I'm in the mood for something obscure from the Hair Metal days.

For any fans of Trixter that never picked this one up, I would recommend adding this to your collection if you happen upon it at a reasonable price. But for fans of groups such as Bon Jovi, Warrant, and Firehouse who are considering Trixter for the first time, I would definitely go for one of their first two releases instead.

I came across this cd on a used cd website. I was debating on getting it, not having owned any Trixter albums before. So after reading the previous 2 reviews posted here on Amazon.com I decided to buy it. WOW! This has to be one of the best "cover version" ablums in my collection. Every song here is a real winner. Trixter stays true to the original versions, but adds enough of their own touch (ie New Jersey, kick-@ss & take no prisoners metal attitude) to make it an interesting & enjoyable listen. What stands out for me is the great guitar playing and killer tone. The guitar intro to "Revolution" flat out blew me away! It might be blasphemy to say it's as good as the original Beatle's version musically, but it is. The entire album is a real diamond in the rough; and a must have for any metal fan.
I add the thrid "5 star" review. Don't let this one get away!

This is the third album from those great "hair-metal" rockers of the early 90's. Trixter had the talent and charisma to go far and it's a shame this was the last album released by the band. Instead of the traditional rock disc, they went a bit nostalgic and released an album of cover tunes. I quite enjoy the CD and the song selection is wonderfully unique. No where else are you going to find a song selection of this sort. The disc kicks off with a cool rendition of the Elvis Costello hit "Pump It Up." Paul Simon's "50 Ways" and Nine Inch Nails "Terrible Lie" are both done excellently. "50 Ways" stays true to its oldies form, and "Terrible Lie" too keeps it's heavy-edge. Supertramp's "Take The Long Way Home" and AC/DC's "Dirty Deeds" follow suit. "Take The Long Way Home" is quite similar to the original and is great to sing along with. "Dirty Deeds" rocks too and is a bit heavier in nature, but is still great to hear. The Beatles "Revolution" is next on the block, and to me is better than the original. The Beatles are a great band, but this version is a bit more guitar oriented and gets you into the song a little more. An unplugged version of "50 Ways" follows and the song catches you just like it did the first time. Lastly, one of the best party songs concludes the album. The Beastie Boys are paid tribute via a live cover of "Fight For Your Right." You haven't heard this song until you hear this version. This song truly makes the disc worth the purchase. Trixter was highly underrated and this disc helps to showcase what they are truly capable of; making and playing great music. If you are a fan of the classics or just want a good listen, please buy this CD as you won't be disappointed.
