5.0 out of 5 stars A true page turner
From the second I read the first word I could not put the book down. This book's plot is well planned and written. What is nice is that the author does not repeat himself in order to keep the plot flowing. This is my first Ridley Pearson novel & I am planning to read all of them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Off to a good start.
Being the first in Pearson's Lou Boldt series, I would say he is off to a good start. With a serial killer they have dubbed 'The Cross Killer' loose on the streets, Boldt and his team must leave no stone unturned. Boldt is walking around looking tired and scruffy, having problems in his marriage, and is constantly on the outs with a colleague with whom there is no love...

5.0 out of 5 stars Ridley Pearson at his best, February 26, 1999
This was my first Ridley Pearson book. I had read an article in the Boston Globe regarding new mystery writers and decided to try them all. Pearson is the one that I have stuck with.

When I first read Undercurrents, I literally could not put it down. In fact I missed an Eric Clapton concert because I lost track of the time.

This is the first Lou and Daphne novel and, arguably, the best!

5.0 out of 5 stars One word, "Awesome" !!, October 22, 1999
By A Customer
Never have I read a book so intense and so addictive! I lost almost half a nights sleep trying to find out what happens next. When I finished reading it, I so wanted more. That's why I went out and bought his other "Lou Boldt" books. I recommend this fast paced thriller to anyone who is a fan of this genre - even if you're not....

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Rainy Weekend Book, April 23, 2000
A good book to curl up with on a rainy day. Fast paced, intriguing. A good balance of the intensity of a gruesome crime spree, and insights into the frailties of the main character. My first Pearson book; won't be my last.

5.0 out of 5 stars A 5 Star Winner!, June 11, 2000

Pearson, through a driven homicide officer takes the reader on a chase for a serial killer, or is it a copy cat? The author quickly moves you through the facts of the case and places before you the questions-- How? Why? How are the victims selected? Is there just one killer? Each chapter brings you closer to one of the answers. The movement of the book is excellent, short chapters that give specific clues. This is one book that will involve you in the investigation by page 15. You will feel as if you are working along with Detective Lou Boldt

5.0 out of 5 stars Undercurrents is Over the Top, October 30, 2004

This has to be one of the best suspense novels I have ever read. I was up into the early morning hours reading this one. Lou Boldt is a detective in the Seattle area. He is hunting a serial killer. They thought they had him at one point and even brought him into court. He was shot by one of the victims fathers. But it turns out it wasn't him. Lou is getting really stressed trying to figure out who the real killer is. And bodies keep mounting up. With the help of his more than a friend psychologist, Daphne, they develop a profile for the killer.

This is the first book in the Lou/Daphne series. It is awesome. Can not wait to read Angel Maker.

Boldt is walking around looking tired and scruffy, having problems in his marriage, and is constantly on the outs with a colleague with whom there is no love lost. Despite this, Boldt must muster the energy to get cracking on this case or risk being taken off it. Pearson's Boldt series has the potential to be a top-notch thriller series. I look forward to reading more by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific read. I couldn't put it down., July 24, 1999
By A Customer
I had every intention of reading this book slowly, but after the first 50 pages, I couldn't put it down. There are so many twists and turns to the plot that you feel you have to read the next chapter just to see what might happen next. Pearson gives us a peak at the tribulations going on in Lou Boldt's personal life which makes his obsession with capturing the "Cross Killer" even more interesting and understandable. I have read several books in the Lou Boldt series. I liked them all, but this and the "Pied Piper" are the best.
