Magnificant,
By "zoldrummer" (Landenberg, PA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Underdog EP (Audio CD)
I didn't honestly think these guys could do it. I'm not going to try to hide my feelings anymore. After "One for the Kids," I didn't think it would be humanly possible for the band to outdo themselves..every single song on that CD was brilliant, and their poppy, catchy melody accented with the violin is nearly unbeatable. Somehow, by some insane chance, they did it again with this 5-song EP on FBR (though I believe the band is signed to Capitol). "Underdog" immediately pulls the listener in for one of the most insane rides through innovation and non-stop catchy melodies and constantly sickening guitar riffs that just don't stop. It's one hell of a catchy tune, as are all the songs (by the band, for that matter), and although the lyrics are simple ("one more trip down, to the lost and found, to find your heart that the quarterback punk stomped on the ground"), the blending of guitar and violin are insanely brilliant. "Avondale" doesn't stop the rock, and for the first time Ryan (or Sean, whoever) breaks into a slight scream at a point. Magnificent. Finish Line and Powder are also both equally as great, and then "Rocket" blasts off into a slow progressive rock ballad that just kills. This EP is by far the best 5 consecutive songs I have ever heard by any band in my long life of emo/pop punk rock. Not getting it would be a sin.

Ohhh....it's over?,
This review is from: The Underdog EP (Audio CD)
Well, I really didn't expect much from this cd at first. I mean, come on, 5 songs....now that just can't be good now can it? Anyway, I decided to borrow the cd from a friend....and it's been three weeks and I still haven't returned it. Why you ask? Cause it's just so damn good...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Underdog (5/5) A perfect way to start a perfect cd! There's a neat spirit lifting tune to this song, and who can forget that 'Whoo' they made before the final chorus? Oh yea, did I mention how much this song helps for cheering you up after failing a test? Avondale (5/5) My second favourite. The only tune that remains the same in this song is the chorus. The first, second and third verse sounds totally different and thus, it makes it extremely hard to get bored of. Powder (5/5) What would you get if'ya combine a good tunes with good lyrics about cocaine and a wonderful singer backed up by neat drumming and guitars spiced up with a violion? Easy, Powder. My favourite part of the song is the one where Ryan goes 'there's power in the powder dissolving in your guts'. I dunno why, it just seems a lil'hilarious to me... Finish Line (5/5) Brings you back to they way you were when you heard Underdog... uplifted(if there's such a word,hope there is).What more can I say? Rocket (5/5) I don't know why, this song reminds me of Empty Apartment(which is one of my favourite from YC btw). It starts really slowly...makes you feel sleepy...and just when you're about to doze off, you'll jolt back up as the last part of the song is played. A masterpiece if I do say so myself.
