Product Description

Abstract Rude's first classic album. Never released on CD before. Melodic Underground hip hop.

About the Artist

ABSTRACT RUDE 1st hit the Los Angeles music scene back in '93 as a young teenager with an old soul. Long time member of dance crew TRIBE UNIQUE, Abstract sprung into action under his big homies' umbrella, displaying his unique vocal talents while the Tribe would visually narrate his abstractions. They blew up talent shows and local showcases around L.A. & Hollywood, and eventually became known as A.T.U. or ABSTRACT TRIBE UNIQUE.

After meeting producer Fatjack, A.T.U.'s sound began to form into a cutting edge blend of hip hop soul. AB RUDE has worked with several producers over the years, but Fatjack remains the heart & soul of A.T.U.'s production. They've done 4 albums to date.

Executive producer of the classic compilation turned club then label, Project Blowed, Abstract Rude is a cornerstone of the L.A. independent network. His community efforts have helped to generate 7 years of an every Thursday night "open mic" workshop in Crenshaw Leimert Park Village.

Ab and Fatjack, always creating, teamed up with San Francisco's DJ D back in '98 to form Massmen Records through Revolver Distribution.

Prior to that merger, Mass Men Crew headed by Fat's big brother Poppa Dejon (Mass Men Northwest) was already an amalgamation of 10 years of hip-hoppin' & demo shopping the MC talents of Novelist, Mass Dog, Awol One, Too Bad, A.T.U., Smooth7, DK Toon & many others. Currently, an AWOL ONE & FATJACK PROPAGANDA EP is available in stores.

Theese days, Ab has been spot-dating key markets promoting his MAKING TRACKS CD out now on Basement Records. He can also be heard regularly on Power 106's Sunday night 10p-12a show, MASS DISTORTION.

I disagree with the previous reviewer. I love this album because you can't understand the later Abstract Rude without listening to how he came to develop his style. I think this first work of his is tight and has a certain rawness that true fans of the underground scene appreciate. You can already see the brilliance that characterizes abstract rude's mature works.

I'll have to say I was disappointed when I heard this album. I consider myself a big Abstract Rude fan. Albums like South Central, P.A.I.N.T and compilations like A-Team and Code Name Scorpion with Aceyalone and Moka Only/Prevail respectively, flow well and I definitely recommend those. However, fans of Rude will notice a distinct difference in the way he sings on these "fossil" tracks. His voice sounds immature and light and not what you expect from Abstract Rude. Also, the beats are sometimes slow and mediocre and the rhymes aren't that interesting. I found myself skipping tracks and hoping that the next one will be better, this never happened though. What else is disappointing is the fact this cd is only 25 minutes, with half of those tracks interludes and non-singing tracks. For anyone considering buying this album, I would recommend any other ATU/Abstract Rude album. They will not let you down. For any die hard Abstract Rude fan; you can check this out, just don't expect too much as these are early recordings before Rude really found his "groove."
