that there can be crack cocaine for the ears? Or that a band can create music that vibrates at just the right frequency to activate the pleasure center in the brain? I dunno, but this stuff sure is addicting.

Or maybe it's just that David Reid is an amazing songwriter, singer, and musician, with bandmates who do a great job of keeping up with him. The music reminds me of a Smithereens/Tom Petty/Byrds mash-up, with a bit of Costello thrown in, but just because Reid builds on music's history doesn't mean he has nothing fresh to offer. Trust me, he does.

It's been a long time since I've been this excited about a band. I have all of their CDs, and each time I buy one I wonder if the magic will be gone, but it just gets better and better.

Thank you to my beloved Little Steven and his Underground Garage for introducing me to the Contrast, and thank you to Rainbow Quartz Records for signing such great bands (to hear more great stuff, go to their website and listen to RQRadio).

And thanks to the Contrast...you many not be a household name, but you have some SERIOUS fans in Texas!
