If you've ever wanted to learn the newest "underground" and innovative guitar methods, this handbook is for you. Filled with cutting-edge and avant-garde techniques, the Underground Guitar Handbook contains detailed explanations and musical examples of such topics as: four-finger licks, unusual scales, diminished licks, tremolo bar flutters and gurgles, the wah-wham method, tritones and flatted fifths, Shawn Lane's "impossible" chord, speed-picking licks, pedal point phrases, new hardware ideas, atonal patterns, mysticism, finger-tapping licks, and much more. Links to the author's youtube videos in which he performs the techniques are also provided, (plus a handful of musical short stories for additional entertainment). For learning the most cutting-edge guitar techniques (many never before published), this manual is all you will ever need.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book for intermediate guitar players, January 7, 2010
This review is from: Underground Guitar Handbook (Paperback)
I was after tips on how to start using all this knowledge I got from tutorials on modes and sweep picking. And I have a real problem: The first scale I have learned was the G Major Scale and all its shapes and memorized all that. So I tend to play everything on G Major. Usually when you see a guitar book it is full of scale charts and less of text explaining things clearly. Usually it is basically, memorize this and go ahead.

This is one of the few books over there that presents text explaining in details several tips, techs and scales in plain English. A warning: don't expect to learn music theory here, it is rather a book for guitar players that want to expand their style. It is full of good humor and tips as well.

The last chapters consist of short tales written by the author with guitar as an inspiration.
