5.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't get any better than this, May 21, 2006
This review is from: Underground Oldies 2 (Audio CD)
I have been searching for sky high quality old soul romantic records of this genre and at last I have found it in this series of oldies. I listened to this CD together with volumes 1 and 3 with disbelief as these are the finest of the finest. I encourage all old soul connoisseurs to buy these vols 1-3, and I will let you know how I get on with vols 4 - 10. Trust me, you will feel like you're in paradise!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A closer look at the soul ballad's more obscure side., September 13, 2003

This CD (like its excellent predecessor "Underground Oldies Vol. 1") spotlights rare and obscure soul ballads that did not make much chart noise but that are nonetheless simply beautiful. The songs by The Ambassadors, The Green Berets, The Lovelites, The Royal Five and Exsaveyons are fine examples of "Sweet Soul" at its rarest but the (mostly-unknown) songs by such legends as Billy Stewart, Gene Chandler and Bloodstone should not be overlooked, either. Many thanks to Alan Beck at ITP Records for issuing such a unique compilation.

Thank you very much. I was looking for Skip Mahoney and I was happy to see a song by The Lost Generation and a rarity by Gene Chandler. Underground Oldies has my vote.

4.0 out of 5 stars What A Surprise!, July 17, 2001
This review is from: Underground Oldies 2 (Audio CD)
I purchased this CD for Billy Stewart's "I'm No Romeo" which I heard him sing at a concert in the early '70's. I have been searching for this song for quite a while. It was the only song I knew on this CD and what a surprise - I enjoyed every other song. I have since played this CD several times and it has become one of my favorites. The ballads flow beautifully. I certainly got my money's worth.
